The release of this was rather special, as not only did it occur on my birthday (35th, thank you. I had no idea I was allowed to make it this far either), but this was a drink I could also review with Mrs Jimthechap who is a notable cider-snob. She, like me, does not enjoy sweet, cold , fizzy ciders that seem to dominate the mainstream market, but also doesn’t enjoy ciders that are visciously dry. You know the ones where you take a sip and immediately regret it because your tongue has been torn out and is whirling around somewhere on the ceiling fan flopping like a fish out of water. Happily, this cider is neither of those, being dryish with a decent understated sweetness that falls beautifully within the standards of two very demanding type 1 diabetics.
It appeared slightly hazy orange in colour with a good scent of orange peel and warm autumnal apples. Cider seems to be one of those things that tests my ability to tie various flavours into the review, but this wasn’t difficult as there was a healthy Seville-orange marmaladiness to it that I particularly enjoyed. Mrs Jimthechap nodded vigorously at this and we both went back for seconds.
Well done that brewer.
