Brewed in the southern German tradition this wheat beer pours a pale amber colour with a slight haze with a short-lived, wispy, white head. The aroma is sweetish and confected, with suggestions of ripe banana, stonefruit and caramel. Firm bodied, with a creamy mouthfeel, the palate starts sweet, with banana lolly, caramel and toasty notes combining, before grassy hops emerge and lead into a dryish, slightly salty, finish.
Germans tend to serve this style of beer as a quenching drink on a summerís day, or at lunchtime with pork and veal sausages, sauerkraut and pretzels. Otherwise try it with more delicately flavoured shellfish such as prawn and scallops, or at the end of the meal with spiced fruit-based desserts such as apple and beery pies or strudels. ABV 5.3%

UPDATED: APR 11, 2012 On tap @Cassels&Sons Brewery. A true german weissbier would be softer, not as sparkly as this, and less spicy. But a really amazing beer here, lots of flavours (banana, spicies...).

I purchased this one for the memsahib but obviously couldnít let an opportunity pass. She wasnít terribly impressed if Iím honest. She was expecting a light, fluffy banana and clove sweetie. What she got wasnít covered in a voluminous white head and pale yellow, but golden, hazy and had no discernible head. She may have been disappointed, but I thought it looked pretty good from where I was sitting. The aroma was more fruit driven than the standard banana, cloves and bubblegum. There was guava and passionfruit as well.
The flavour was more fruit driven as well. The wheat malt was subtle and understated initially and then everything else came bimbling along fruit and then the afore mentioned banana etc. It lasted on the palate with satisfaction and even memsahib admitted that she enjoyed the flavour.
