Hazy orange amber with a small head. Aromas are fruity. Apples or pears. Sour citrus and just a slight barnyard quality. Some spices. Flavors contain a mild citrus and more apples. Bittering hops. Yeasty. Mellow palate and a fruity finish.

Pours a gross hazy brown color with a small white head. Nice spiced aroma, slightly roasty. Taste starts sweet and ends yeasty and slightly sour. There are some flavors of caramel and leather. Smooth with a crisp finish.

2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Murky amber with weak white head. Funky nose. Fruit and spice. Slightly astringent in the mouth. Light carbonation. Flavor was sweet and sour. Had trouble placing this beer. In the end, it just wasn’t anything I enjoyed.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle: Brownish red with a heavy beige head; cloudy. Sweet, fruity aroma that is also very noticable in it´s taste. Good balance with the high alcohol level. Too bad it is so hard to get.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Lightly hazed, reddish amber hue, good head formation. Caramel aroma, dark fruits, malty. Malty flavor, dark fruits, prunes and raisins, some breadiness. Turns more lightly fruity in the second half, bittering a little towards the end. Well balanced sweet and bitter finish.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Smells weak and needs some malt kick. can’t decide whether it wants to be a blonde strong or a dark strong. Smells vaguely of caramel, no alcohol and no fruits. Tastes like COLA concentarte. Well, maybe not quite so bad. But too sweet, vaguely unbalanced, and not complex. Alcohol in swallow. Wierd. Reading other ratings, they suggest this should be aged. Hmm.

UPDATED: APR 21, 2005 OK, so a Belgian Strong Ale brewed in Mexico, what’s next? Taco’s from Belgium? Any-whoo, I thought the alcohol taste was overpowering the sweet maltiness. I thought the abv was around 11%. Cloudy amber color. Medium bodied but I couldn’t get past the strong taste.

Bottle at Brewtopia 2004...
Murky, amber ale with a small, fizzy, white head. The aroma is fruity with notes of berries. The flavor is well-balanced and vineous with some notes of toffee. Medium-bodied with lively carbonation. Lengthy, fruity, dry finish.

BrewTopia 2004 ***Rating from memory
I was really greedy and sampled this beer a few times, probably 10-12oz total.
Poured a robust murky brown / mahogany colored body with a small tan head… it left behind a splotchy lacing. The aroma was robust with dark fruits and a rather earthy helping of malt and spice. The flavor was lightly sweet up front... candied sugars- caramel & toffee. Then the earthy malts adjust the palate.. Notes of leather, topsoil, some dry cut hay.. oak and cedar wood chips, and to boost in the finish, some black peppercorn for the spice, and a toasty bread like yeasty-ness.
Overall, I was pretty impressed… definitely complex… this one would age rather well.
