Oh yes, its time for another beer from our brother down under, the Casta Brewery (starting the timer now on the emailed thank you response for trying their beer). This beer poured a medium but clear yellow color with a big frothy white head which dissipated quickly into nothingness. I really dug the aroma on this beer for the first few sniffs. Very sweet American wheat aroma. Hints of vanilla, heavy caramel and citrus, doughy sweetness as well. Very pleasant. The taste isnt bad at first, as in I could see how they describe this as the perfect summer beer. Heavy lime and citrus with hints of doughiness and grapefruit. Some orange peel in there as well. Its a nice fruity and pretty hoppy delight, but that aftertaste makes for one hell of a wollop. I couldn’t quite figure the finish out. Its very dry and malty with heavy HEAVY citrus and clove. So much so that it made the beer almost intolerable for the first few sips. My palate had a pretty hard time adjusting. All in all it ends fairly dry, it is pretty smooth and crisp, a good use of lime I must say. Pretty good work for Mexico I must say.

Lightly hazy color with just a fair amount of fizzy head and no lacing, the head dissipates completely after a while. The aroma is nicely accented with wheat, not a musky blunt wheat smell that most american wheat beers do. A good amount of hops to balance, very refreshing and clean. The flavor is a little tangy once it warms up but keeps a good hop bitterness apparent all the way through and really balances with the lighter than usual carbonation for the style. Finishes smooth, balanced. Very good american wheat, I usually hate this style.

Blond color. Quite simple and dry beer, with delicate Weiße-spicy notes.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 PeterA (340) - SLOVAK REPUBLIC - MAY 14, 2004
(Bottle) Wheaty aroma, but somehow seems a touch off to me. Golden color with big white head that goes away quickly. A little bit on the sweet side for an American wheat. The palate seems a little bit thin, but the amount of carbonation seems about right. This is a good beer for Mexico, but kind of average for its style
2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 SG (465) - Valley Center, California, USA - APR 23, 2004
Golden/yellow hue. Slightly citrusy and watery. I agree that it is a little budweiser-esque. Not that great. A little too thin on the palate, and the flavor seems a little off to me. Not up to the high level of other casta beers I've tried.

(Bottle) Pours a golden color with a foamy white head. Has a descent wheat and citus flavor. With out a doubt the best Mexican beer I have tasted. In a class by itself.

Orange golden color with a bubbly fluffy white head. Dry and wheaty, with some citrus in the aroma. Very refreshing citrus, also some wheat and yeast tastes as well. This was really nice.

Malty and slightly diacetyl aroma. Flavor is somewhere between a light Belgian and some Eastern European lagers due to the yeasting. Yeasty, malty, lightly sweet, moderately hopped, tangy acidity. Medium hoppy, tart finish with a bit of butterscotch at the very end. Good English-style bottle, some kind of scary Picasso-esque crab critter on the label, darkish golden beer with light foam head. Decent stuff, very interesting, and definitely one of the better Mexican brews that I've had. Thx to PorterPounder for retrieving this from Savannah, GA.

On a recent trip to Monterrey, Mexico I had a chance to try a great Ale from a new Mexican Micro Brewery. I liked the approach of the Brewery, but specially their beers. According to a local friend, the people from Cerveza CASTA are a small family-owned business offering specialty ales with their personal and regional "twist". This is nice, specially coming a from a country dominated by two huge brewing groups. The Beer... first I tried the Triguera. A clear wheat beer of a nice translucent, clear gold color. A nice head, but could hold longer. The aroma is that of citric fruits. The flavor was very complex and extremely drinkable. A very refreshing beer for the extreme summers of that region. It was great to get such an outstanding beer from Mexico. Without a doubt I will try the rest of CASTA's Ales on my next trips there.

loose, foamy white head, real well carbonated, golden body. somewhat spicy yeast notes. corn flavor emerges among the wheaty, cloying budwieseresque brew. weak finish, some dry graininess.
