Very old bottle, 03/97. Barnyard aroma. Very sweet malty flavor. Light. Flavor as a little old lawn clipping flavor. Not bad.

Looks very nice with a light color and a large head. Aroma is slightly skunky. Taste is malty with a clean slight bitter finish. good but not great.

Nothing to write home about but still better than the mass produced beers. I would most likely not get this one again not because it was bad just that there are others I prefer.

argo0 (11349) - Washington DC, USA - JAN 4, 2003
Clear golden body, big bubbles rising, and a big white head. Aroma is spicy, slightly sweet, and grassy hoppy. Taste is quite sweet, a bit spicy, and finishes with a mild grassy bitterness, along with a bit of astringency. Body is light, fairly carbonated. Not bad, but it’s missing the complexity I’d like in a biere de garde.

Hazy golden body with a watery white head. Soft "barnyard" aromas with a bit of of lemon zest. Sweet, grassy, and dank. Finish has a rather dusty feel to it.

Looks like a lager, but tastes nothing like one. Fruity/sweet, with some yeastiness and a little hop well in the back. Some alcohol on the finish. Not bad at all.

UPDATED: AUG 26, 2012 Upon finally locating some fresh bottles and after not having tried this in 5+ years, I figured a revisit is in order. Not nearly good as I once recall. While the beer is remarkably clean, there is some apple limpness that plagues things despite the high level of dryness. No hop signature either, which makes for plenty of empty gaps throughout. Pils malt is very clean but lacking distinction and character. Also somewhat metallic and harshly mineralic, akin to chewing on a cinderblock. As much as I am a lover of delicateness, this is almost too very restrained and clean. Certainly quaffable due to the squeaky clean attenuation, but there just isn’t much here to sustain my interest for more than couple gulps.

Fluffy, creamy, and sticky white foam. Hazy stray yellow color. Herbal, barnyard, subtle banane, perfumey hops, wood, yeast, and kiwi aboard this complex aroma. Ample carbonation. Palate starts vinous and acidic before a rush a sweet, straw, and grassy flavors. Alcohol, honey, and spice emerge as temperature increases. Notably dry finish. Alcohol provides subtle warmth. Sweet/acidic interplay makes this a superb, sit-down Summer session ale. One of France’s best kept secrets for sure.
