COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tiny Benifontaine (pop. 272) owes its name "good fountain" to the quality of the local water. Artisan Brasserie Castelain has produced classic Bieres de Gardes here since 1926. GRAND CRU is their richest, most full bodied version of this classic French style. Delicately hopped and accentuating the nutty sweetness of the local Pas de Calais malt, it is delicious with roast chicken, country sausages and assertively flavored cheeses.

750 c&c from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours golden amber with a foamy white head. Aroma is fresh, light pitted fruit with interesting malt. Full bodied. Flavor is very intense, but hard to dissect. Arguably a bit nutty. It’s earthy, but not really barnyard. It has sweet malt, but it also tends towards dry. It’s not exactly astringent, but my mouth wants to say it is. It gets a bit earthier with time. It seems very rich, and rich is not a term I’d usually use for a "blonde". Tho it’s in the description. Quite an impressive ale.

On tap at Blue Monk. New and the promoted most richest on the BDG style that they do.Yes more hoppy than usual, perhaps this would be better aged. Light orange coloured body, Not bad drinkability but getting yeast and then rather astringent in the finish. French Belgian BDG IPA style?
