COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Announcing the first ever collaboration beer from a French Craft brewery, Brassserie Castelain of Benifontaine France and Two Brothers of Warrenville, Illinois. The name Diversey & Lille is a riff on Chicago’s first brewery, Diversey & Lill (a Franco-American collaboration that dates back to 1833) and Lille (the capital of the North of France and a city near the Castelain brewery).

The nose of this dry hopped Biere de Garde sparkles with notes of citrus grass and apricot. Flavors of ripe fruit spices and toasted almond round out this slightly sweet, full beer. We are very excited to introduce it to the nation at large and most especially to Chicagoans. For the first time since 1871, Chicago has a beer called Diversey & Lill(e).

The beer was brewed in Benifontaine and is a collaboration between Nicholas Castelain and Jason Ebel.

Bottle thanks to Dallas I believe. Pours a clear copper color with a medium white head. The aroma is big sweet hay and caramel, some dust. The flavor is a clear flavorful brew with light citrus, dusty sweet malts, bubblegum. Good.

Draft at Craft Ale House. Poured hazy golden straw colored with off-white head. Nose was grainy funky yeasty pale malt, hops, mild florals. Tasted crisp, with funky yeasty pale malt up front, then some hops, mild florals, and mild spicy peppery notes. Decent.

Light copper, clear, off-white head. Malty, with some bread-crust Munich malt notes, a little toffee, some earthy/cellar Bierde de garde-like character, clean. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at the Bavarian Lodge in Lisle, IL. Pours a clear, amber-orange colored body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is sweet and bready with a bit of a candy note. Some cherries, a few esters, a light yeasty spice, and a bit of a nutty caramel. Flavor is similar. Sweet malts with a candyish bread, slight nutty caramel, fruity esters, a bit of a cherry, and a light yeasty spice. Touch of herbal bitterness as this finishes smooth and clean with a slight dryness. Medium length aftertaste following a smooth, medium body and a soft, medium-light carbonation. Overall, a decent beer. Sweeter and bready with a light yeasty spicing and a bit of a fruitiness. Nicely made and easy drinking. Decent.

Location: 750 ml bottle from Buy Rite, 9/7/12

Aroma: The nose is sweet malts, fruity, caramel/toffee, bread, spice, and a little bit of booze
Appearance: It pours a clear burnt reddish-orange color with a lasting beige head and medium lace
Flavor: The taste is fairly sweet, it is heavily malty, with some fruity notes, and something off in the finish
Palate: The body is medium, with average carbonation, an alright feel, and a slightly off finish
Overall Impression: This beer will now mark the start to the weekend for me, and thank goodness, because for a short week, this was a long week. Anyway, this beer was alright, but it wasn’t particularly good.

Draft @ Sunset Grill and Tap. Amber in color with good head retention. Aromas are honey and sweet malt. Taste shows the sweet malt again with a very light fruit note; I have a hard time defining. The finish as a strange artificial sweetener taste. I really liked the beer the first few sips. However, the bizarre artificial sweet taste really turn me off as I continued to drink it.

On tap. Pours with a crystal clear amber hued body with a large tan head. Aromas are spicy, sweet cherries, pits, plums, estery. Mild phenolic character. Lightly bready malt. Tons of bright fruit esters for a BdG. Flavors are sweet, musty, cherry, cotton candy, lots of esters and sweet overall. Medium carbonation. Medium complexity. Misses the mark for me personally.

Bottle to a duvel tulip. Pours a clear copper amber with 2 fingers of frothy off white head and decent lacing. Aroma is of caramel, bread, almond, cherries, and faint pine. Taste is very nutty up front. It gives way to vanilla, caramel, toffee, and more breadiness. Thin mouthfeel and easy to drink. Pretty good.
