My green bottle simply says "Castello di Udine Birra Italiana", but I think it's the Friulana Blonda based on the pics on RateBeer and ratings by those who've tried it. Anyway, there's a reason people mock Italian beers and this Castello isn't going to change any impressions people already have of Italian brewing prowess. Simply put, it's a straightforward lager. No herbal, floral or metallic notes. Carbonated, perhaps too much. Crisp and dry.

Sweet aroma, not skunky. Taste is a simple uncomplicated bitterness which turns nasty at the end. Also has a very dry finish.

Pale body, slightly grassy aroma. Light bready malts, grassy hop. Slightly more bitter than a typical Italian lager but that's no big thrill (wow, 20 IBUs!). Off-dry finish. All that crap about this kind of beer being good on a hot day is just that - crap. I sampled this sitting in the hot sun at the cottage, on the beach overlooking Georgian Bay and it still did nothing for me.

A nice beer that was a tad skunky. A nice sweetness balanced by a decent hoppiness. Clear yellow and pale. Pretty thin.

Decent head and surprisingly OK lace. Pretty neutral aroma, slight hoppyness. Sweet start, sweet middle, and slightly hop bitter finish, pretty thin however, and just like any other Italian lager i’ve ever had.

fiulijn (10383) - Como, ITALY - AUG 6, 2002
Simple aroma, within a mass lager aroma, unmalted wheat and hay. Dry, easy drinkable, decent body strength, strong bitterness. The palate is a just too bitter. Not bad for a cheap drink.
