3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 rauchbier (3205) - Isle Of Beer, - JAN 26, 2007
Bottle, from Rhythm & Booze in Brigg. Amber gold, thin white head and moderate condition. Pleasant mix of sweet caramel and earthy hoppiness in the nose with some background orangy citrus notes. Quite sweet in the mouth with the citrus and caramel dominating but with a very faint suggestion of phenols. Sweet finish with little of the hops apparent in the nose returning to balance it out.

500ml can poured a pale amber color with a big white creamy head that settled with some decent lacing. Aroma is grainy with some hops. Taste is light malty sweet with an agressive hop bitterness. A decent bitter with a light to medium body and moderate carbonation.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - OCT 14, 2011
First tasted this in the Bar Point, Paisley in May 1989. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear copper red in colour with a thick white head. Strange metallic note in the short aroma. Creamy but thin mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts deliver a fiery digestive malt base with tart redcurrant fruit. Really strong metallic flavour from the tart hop resins in the long aftertaste. Almost smokey nicotine flavour from the dry tart finish. Struggle with this for a session as the astringency builds up in the mouth, drying you out.

Cask conditioned at Cockney Pub, Århus Copper color, poor head. It has a light apple aroma. Quite watery mouthfeel, with a little caramel taste and ordinary to sub-ordinary bitterness, still with a touch of apples. It reminds me the apple touch from homebrewing kits. Easy.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Ethereal (2399) - Los Angeles, California, USA - DEC 26, 2007
500ml bottle. Clear copper colour with no head. Aroma is sweet - caramel, vanilla and maybe a hint of oranges. Tangy flavour with sweet malt balancing the hops. Rather too flat for my liking and somewhat bland. Not as good as the old cask stuff I remember drinking in Cambridge in the 1990s.
