COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pasteurised bottle only.
Originally produced at the old Castle Eden brewery for the Tesco Beer Challenge in 2000, when it won First Prize. After the link up with Camerons and closure of the Castle Eden brewery, the brand survived as Camerons Challenge Ale (q.v.) but at a significantly lower ABV.
A dark amber coloured beer with a clever twist of orange.

Bottled, Pasteurised. Amber beer with weak dissapating head, highly carbonated. The carbonisation masks anthing for some time but when warmed there is a strange citrusy twang that doesn't come from hops. Undeveloped in maltiness, quite dissappointing.

Orange aroma. Copper hue and virtually no head. Sweet orangy flavour not much else to report. Its a bit like orange squash with beer in it. Light and thin.

This won a nationwide challenge run by a British suermarket chain. The first question you ask is what were the rest like? High carbonisation is the first thing that hits you followed by citrus and other tastes that are hard to describe.Once the carbonisation dies down its not a bad beer-but not a winning one.

rauchbier (3205) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - JUN 20, 2002
Bottled. More chestnut than dark amber, with a flaccid head and slightly overcarbonated. Good hop and malt ballance int the aroma, with a discrete orange flavour in the mouth that you would attribute to hops if you hadnt read the label. A dry bitterness develops and dominates the aftertaste.
