coldmeat23 (72), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Nov 11, 2009 VINTAGE: 2006
Beautiful clear amber liquid sits underneath a light one-finger head of foam that dissipates quickly to leave a slight ring of tiny bubbles around the edge of the glass. Minimal lacing.
Honeyed pears with just a touch of dark sweetness. Molasses? Apples and light brandy notes. A hint of alcohol.
Sweet caramel malts and dark melting sugars. Pears, apples and peaches. Slight spiciness. Light roasted nuttiness. Warming effect not unlike rum or brandy.
Feels slightly thick. Like a watered down syrup. This is totally a good thing.
Easily drinkable, even though the 14% abv will surely kick your ass in a hurry.
It’s so worth trying to track this one down.

Aroma: Malty sweet aroma. Lots of alcohol.
Appearance: Light Brown in color, slight haze with a light head.
Flavor: Big roasty sweet malt flavor with tons of alcohol this was a big malt bomb.
Palate: Dry with a smooth nutty finish.
Overall: A very tasty brew with tons of alcohol. One of the best old beers I have had in a long time.
Itzjerm (70), Harvest, Alabama, USA Oct 29, 2009 This was a 2007 bottle. Other than the aroma, it was very nice. VERY strong. It does have a oily flavor, but actually that allows a smother taste. Malty/Caramel flavor, not an alcholic flavor in my opinion. Enjoyable. Expensive but enjoyable. Flavor and smell improves as sits in glass. EHSRanders (1121), Randers C, Denmark Oct 16, 2009 Bottle. Clear amber/brown colour with medium creamy white mostly diminishing head. Malty aroma with notes of dark fruits and alcohol. Sweet spicy flavor. Warm alcohol finish. Oily palate. DeanF (285), Paris, France Oct 2, 2009 Pours into a chalice with a lean head that soon dissipates to nothing, but has an appealing amber colour to it, almost burgundy really. Nose is all syrup and alcohol, some fruits, or at least some fruity notes. I have to say, though, for a beer of this strength and punch it’s quite tasty - lots of fruits and malts, not as syrupy to drink, but very very sweet. Too sweet for me, and very hard to finish this bottle. It was like drinking 330ml of ice wine - way too sweet, way too much. dionysus (95), Arizona, USA Sep 29, 2009 2008 Bottle pours copper in color with an almost non-existent head. Aroma smells of plums, apples, and brown sugar. Flavor is sweet toffee, maple syrup and a tiny touch of alcohol. In fact the alcohol is extremely well covered and the only true reminder is the fantastic warmth it leaves behind. I really wanted to give this one a higher score, just couldn’t find the points to donate. BeerChaser0078 (291), Melbourne, Australia Sep 24, 2009 Bottle. 2008 vintage. Pours deep copper with an off-white head that doesn’t lasts too long. Aroma is fairly light with notes of caramel fudge and sweet malt as well as a whiff of alcohol. Flavour is quite sweet and has toffee, maple syrup, port wine and malt all standing out. Palate is surprisingly thick and sticky. I would love to try this beer with about five years under its belt, but as it is, the current vintage is quite nice, but very sweet. Frovigalning (398), , Sweden Sep 13, 2009 It poured a clear dark golden liquid with a small foam that left no lacing. It had a weak alcoholic smell. It had a strong taste of caramell, malt and alcohol. Better balance then the Hellers version, more like a barley wine.
