Pale golden colour, fast fading white head. Malty aroma, some hoppiness. The mouthfeel actually seems pretty good to me, bready flavour with a hint of Saaz hops. Aroma is a bit metallic however. Finish seems slightly acidic.

The most exotic things here for me are the big 750 ml bottle and country of origin. Very pale, grainy and watery.

All round not bad for a mainstream commercial lager. Seems to have retained its clarity. I always disregarded this assuming it was a Sth African version of VB but not bad at all.

The ingredients list has "maize" listed before "hops". That should tell you pretty much all you need to know...

(Bottle) Castle Lager is South Africa’s Budweiser. Popular in SA, but not that enjoyable...

Bottled. Light golden with a short head. Rathr fresh and a bit pungent aroma. Thin and watery with ok bitterness and maybe some maltiness.
