rlgk (3377), Vårgårda, Sweden Jun 1, 2004 Golden, no head. Has a somewhat malty aroma with some hops and some toffee. Malty flavor. Nate (2533), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA May 19, 2004 Bottle at Birmingham Airport - Light hop aroma, no malt. Bit off, not skunky, but not that good. Pale dull yellow clear with foamy white head. Watery with med-light carbonation. Starts with light sweetness, mild acidity. Bit of grain taste and alcohol, light hops, corn. Finish has mild bitter, after is mild. Standard pale lager with a bit of extra hops. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA May 11, 2004 This is first off like drinking soapy water, then the malts hit you and it is vaguely resembling a loaf of bread, with just a bit of soft honey hoppy sweetness in the finish. Beer Snob (378), Ontario, Canada May 2, 2004 I guess the "most popular" beer in any country is going to suck. Castle is kind of decent with a hinto of hops in its otherwise bland soapy taste. Fairly refreshing, but this urine coloured lager with the fake looking head will never be a top choice. Jahills (151), Cambridge (Hobart), Australia Apr 12, 2004 Quite light, thin and refreshing, really plainish and boring but tasted good while watching a great game of footy. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA Apr 2, 2004 Nice bready, yeasty aroma and a head that wasn't half bad for the first minute. Then it settles into a smallish thin head but sticks around. Definetly not as low as 6th percentile but not a bad Lager. My favorite South African beer to date! DerBiermeister (504), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Mar 29, 2004 The aroma is metallic and musty. The appearance is thin and very watery. Actually, when I poured it, it really looked like yellow carbonated water. The head was large at first, but quickly began to subside. On the lighter side, not only does this beer look untasty, it also tastes untasty. It is actually not terrible. The thing to remember is, as Samuel L. Jackson in 'Pulp Fiction' postulated, 'Personality goes a long way'. This beer does not have personality. Therefore, this beer does not go a long way. Sure, it came from Africa, so geographically speaking it did, but not in the broader, more ontological sense of taste and the exertion of reality. Screw it. I don't even know what I'm saying anymore. I probably won't get this beer again any time soon. In this beer's thinness, it is to me reminiscent of the Mexican beers Pacifico Clara or Tecate. However, I would prefer either of this thin Mexican beers as thirst quenchers to this African beer here. I would also prefer to go to Mexico than Africa. That has nothing to do with the beer. newfoundweed (9), Dar es salaam, Tanzania does not count Mar 29, 2004 The best african beer, brewed at SAB, the best breweries in africa. outruns any african beer.
