Yellow color. Faint aroma of corn. Some corn in the body and a slight hoppy finish. About what you’d expect of a South African lager.
2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 SilkTork (4736) - Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom, WALES - SEP 25, 2002
UPDATED: DEC 18, 2006 Sept, 2003Started by Charles Glass way back in 1889 during the early days of the South African gold mines, when he would try out his different brews on the thirsty goldminers until he found one they all liked, this is the ’taste that’s stood the test of time’! Like most mass-market beers it lacks character, but is drinkable and serves a purpose. It has a long smooth straw-malt taste with a hint of honey sweetness, a decent mouthfeel, and it quenches the thirst. [1.6]
Dec, 2006 A clean lager with moderate carbonation. Mild hop levels. Refreshing. Some biscuit malt notes. Quite drinkable and inoffensive. Cheap. [2.0]

Grassy malty smell is faint yet complimentary to it’s corn, straw and light dust. I’m being to nice to this boring beer. Oh mwell’ one never knows till one tries.

UPDATED: AUG 10, 2010 After the beer was served in the glass there was found a lasting quantity not wall adhesive white foam collar which was fine and even of structure. The beer also contained much carbonic acid in the glass.
The beer has aclear golden color and a sweet taste. The after tast of the beer is hoppy bitter with a malty touch. This beer smells malty.

1.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20 Davhgbrew (418) - Boca Raton, Florida, USA - SEP 4, 2002
very below average lager, and unexciting.
1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 OlJuntan64 (1266) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - SEP 1, 2002
Pale gold clear and one of the thinnest, shortest lasting, heads of any lager I’ve tried. Very faint sappy hops and faint fruit and alcohol on warming. First mouthful is a light bitter, subsequent mouthfuls are poorly masked corn sweet. The aftertaste is a depressing stale bitter.
2 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Panzuriel (1080) - Westerville, Ohio, USA - AUG 18, 2002
A very sub average beer, but not a bad one by any stretch. It’s simply nothing special. But nothing bad either. Good normal malty taste. No hops to mention at all.
