Can: Pale gold color, with a white film head. Aroma is of sweet pale malt and dried weeds. Thin, not overly carbonated. Alight pale malt bisquit hint and more grassy bitterness than expected, but it’s hardly bitter. Slightly metallic with evident compost and adjuncts. Eh...

(11.5 oz bottle: $1.69 at BevMo in La Jolla, CA) "MFG 18-Nov-05, EXP 18-Nov-06". Well, there you have it, Castle Lager is "brewed in perfect balance" and is meant to be consumed within a year. Mmm mmm, I can’t wait! Pours a crystal clear medium straw color with several trails of small carbonation bubbles rising progressively more quickly as they approach the small, white head sitting atop the beer. Clean, macro lager aroma and flavor across the board, mildly bitter, minimally sweet, not standing out in any way from other pale lagers. But this beer also isn’t showing any cardboard, and I consider that a victory worth noting. Dry on the palate, light in body, abundant carbonation, clean and refreshing. Nothing great, that’s for sure, quite like most American macros in its clean flavor, but at twice the cost.

Can. Pale golden body with a white head. A little malt flavor in the aroma and actually traces of hops. Flavor is just another refreshing, thin watery lager with just almost enough malt and hop to finish the bottle/can. It’s OK, but noting special.

Initial first taste is not a balanced bitter taste. Hop aroma just above a pale golden colour, drinkable but not that good.

This beer is everywhere in S. Africa, and so I felt compelled to try it. Yes, it’s a typical international lager akin to Budweiser in many respects. The difference is, you get to enjoy Castle Lager in Cape Town, S. Africa. Straw flavors and a light golden color. Corny adjuncts.

(bottle - 340 ml) Clear yellow pour with a thin white head. Aroma is very grassy and hoppy with some good dry notes and a bit of sweetness to it. Flavor is sweet at the start with some notes of dry grass, hops, metallic hints, and some sweetness again at the end. Watery but refreshing.
