Choice barley grain is slow roasted to produce a rich dark brew. A unique blend of hops adds a touch of bitterness and a special yeast fixes the unmistakable flavor and creamy head.
Also comes in a license brewed version by Tanzania Breweries, Pabod Breweries in Nigeria and in Vietnam by SABís subsidiary in Da Nang.

Pours an extremely dark brown, almost black, with a good amount of tan head. Aromas of coffee and roasted malt (not particularity pronounced but definitely there), with coffee becoming more pronounced as the beer warms in hand. Not very creamy, but not too watery either. The lactose in the beer adds a pleasant sweet after taste, with hops not being very pronounced in this beer. A good amount of carbonation. This has become my go-to "commercial" beer in South Africa and is probably the best beer brewed by SABMiller.

Bottle at home from Savannah at London Bridge station. Pours black with a decent off white head. Not much of an aroma on the beer, a little lactose maybe. Taste is sweet, bit of chocolate and coffee, plenty of lactose. Not a bad sweet stout.

33cl can as a gift. Pours black with a modest beige head. Malty aroma with nice roasty notes, caramel, chocolate and milk. Medium sweet and surprisingly pleasant, not much bitterness to speak of, but works out anyway. Quite nice.

Deep and dark brown colour with a dense head. Aroma is coffee. Taste is dark chocolate. Fairly carbonated for the style, so it has an interesting texture.

Pours an opaque brown. Aroma has slight roasted malt. Taste is not complete full body but does have a toasted malt and nut finish. Better than the standard lagers but a below average stout.

Rich, deep dark brown coloured body with a thick brown base and a nice, three centimetre tall microfoamed deep brown head - very nice looking. Aroma of roasted malt, light coffee, milk chocolate, figs, prunes, nuts, pecans and a touch of alcohol - nice. Medium-bodied; Assertive creamy and malty flavours at first with some metal twangs and a bit of nuttiness noticeable, along with a defined creamy flavour from the milk/lactose and a good rich sweetness from prunes and raisins. Aftertaste is nice with a light complexity and some minor chocolate flavours to couple with the malt and pit creaminess. Overall, a nice milk-based stout with a rich flavour and nice maltiness - great to sample, perhaps this has gotten better over time, but there isnít much sediment and I donít remember much different from when it was fresh. I sampled this 330 mL can purchased from the Skukuza Rest Camp in/near Nelspruit, South Africa, inside Kruger National Park, South Africa on 21-August-2011 sampled the fourth time after this trip going back to South Africa, in just a few hours with two kids, on 08-August-2015 where iíll surely pick up more of this fine beer.
