1.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20
Bottle in South Africa. Poured very black with a thin brownish head. The aroma was very minimal of grains but no aroma of hops. My first taste was full of anticipation but was not rewarded. No lingering aftertaste. I would not try it again.

UPDATED: AUG 22, 2014 -Backlog- Black with tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and milk chocolate. Creamy palate. Aftertaste is sweet milk chocolate and a nice and refreshing mix of spicy noble hops and sweet roasted malt. Overall: Mass produced, but wow. This one is excellent and easy to drink.
-Castle milk stout ultra smooth- Pours black with impressive off-white head. Great lacing! Aroma is gym socks, metal, roasted malt and some chocolate. Creamy and smooth palate. Aftertaste is roasted, chocolate milk, some metal and some hop bitterness.Overall: Really good! Aroma is not good, but the rest is impressive for a big brewing company. Total score is the average of normal and ultra smooth.

Bottle, t t t twist off! Black with a medium sized light brown head. Cornflakes, light grain, roasted malt, maybe a little chocolate if I stretch it. Medium body, oily texture, soft/medium carbonation, medium sweet with little bitterness. Somewhat inoffensive and perhaps likeable if you care for cornflakes with chocolate.

When I went to South Africa I had so much bad beer, I was getting quite fed up. There IS good beer in South Africa, but most of it is from the brewery in old Südwest (Namibia) Windhoek. But there is one beer... My very first Milk Stout, Castle’s black and amazing stout works on so many levels. Even though there’s the dreaded corn in this beer as well, SA has kept this old beer ticking along and it has a nice niche in South Africa. Several times Afrikaaners would come over in their rugby shirts and tell me how happy they were to see me, a foreigner drink "their" beer and buy me another.
Now, milk stout is a fairly unknown product to Scandinavians, but as I understand it, they make it with lactose sugars. It rounds out the flavor and adds a really nice texture to the beer. It is so good and seems so healthy, selling it under this name is not legal in Sweden (alcohol and milk may not be sold as a product name).
