Cask; New Barrack Tavern, Sheffield. Typical bitter. Nice dark, nutty brown colour with a creamy head. Light malts and decent hops; quite well balanced. Light on the palate and good drinkability. Not outstanding but a fair session beer.

The Victoria Inn, Beeston, Notts. Tawny with a nitro-tight white lid. Soft, praline and lactic aroma like a well-used old barrel. Light herbal hop, caramel, a sway of fern, creamy malt finish alluding at cashew. Good, clean ticker’s bitter- you’ll enjoy it once but never come back to it.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 mjs (2997) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JAN 30, 2011
(Cask at Gallows Real Ale Festival 2011) The beer poured amber and clear. Head was small and white. Aroma had malts, hops, toffee and sweetness. Palate was medium bodied and dry. Flavours were toffee, hops, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was bitter. I found the aroma and the flavour of the hops used in this beer too acrid and stinging. Otherwise a flawless brew.

Cask, Bridge Hotel, Newcastle. Unremarkable brown colour with minimal head.
Caramel malts and some vague fruitiness, but very little happening. Bitterness lacked balls. Just about tolerable but flat and underwhelming. Next !

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 RPillsbury (115) - Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, ENGLAND - JAN 22, 2009
Cask a the Lincolnshire Poacher, Nottingham. Fruity aroma and flavours of citrus and hops. I wouldn’t say anything bad about Hemlock. It has the perfect blend of flavours that you find in a bitter. However, there’s nothing exceptional about this beer. I think it’s better than most average beers I’ve had, but since I’m used to finding it at pubs with an extensive range (like the Lincolnshire Poacher or the Vat and Fiddle), I have the urge to give it an average score. But I’m trying to think of how good it is in the grand scheme of things so I’ll give the benefit of the doubt.
