Cask-conditioned at the Wellington, Birmingham 12/08/08. Deep gold in colour with a decent white head. Clean, slightly sweet aroma. Biscuit malt flavour with a pronounced bitter finish. A lot going on for the ABV.

Cask at peterborough beer fest. Alround rating: Pale biscuity malts, grassy juicey bittering hop, the pale maklt gets sweeter as it goes on, balanced and very tasty stuff.

Cask at the Kean’s Head, Nottingham. This is a rare disappointment from Castle Rock, one of my favourite breweries. It’s a deep gold beer with a thin and somewhat fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour is somewhat earthy but unfortunately, this is somewhat reminiscent of cardboard. The finish is bitter but not especially enjoyable or refreshing. It’s a boring beer.

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Gold with a small white head. Pleasantly fruity aroma, perhaps apple, but thereafter rather thin and disappointing: a slight biscuity taste, a great deal of metallic fizz and a sparse bitter finish. But this beer is a milestone in another way. It’s beer #100 for the month of August, and that’s the first time I’ve notched up a three figure month during my three and a half years with RateBeer.
