COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This traditional American strong ale blends copious amounts of five different malts and various English and American hops to yield a rich and warming winter brew. As this ale is extremely complex in its flavor and quite full bodied, the consumer is rewarded by letting a small amount warm in a brandy snifter and sipping as one would a fine sherry. We age our Barleywine for over three months to blend these complex flavors into a full blown sensory experience to enjoy on a cold winter eve. This brew is our gift to our loyal fans who support our high quality brews the whole year 'round.

Intenst prune, wine and orange aroma. Dark brown colour, off-white head, good lace. Sweet, full, hopbitter, prune, wood, too much alcohol presence though. Finish lasts long and is hoppy, alcohol bitter, coffee in the very end and a little dry.

Bottled. Chestnut brown. Fruity, orangey nose. Very sweet and really hoppy. Thick, malty mouthfeel and lingering very bitter sugary finish. Probably still too young when I sampled it.

I didn’t like this one much although I might just be not used to this style of beer. It seemed to me too chunky and strong, with dominant taste of alcohol.

Deep murky brown, slight reddish hue. Raisiny vinous aroma. A super heady beer that needs some more restraint. There are lots of flavours there but the alcohol seems to dominate. This beer is warming before it even enters your mouth.

VENOM (941) - Connecticut, USA - AUG 27, 2002
Murky caramel color with a fizzy fast dissipating head that leaves nothing but a tiny bubble rising thru the center of the glass. Light carbonation. Vinous aroma of raisins, caramel, strawberries and light ethanol. Mellow body, lightly airy at first. Loaded with malts (toffee and butterscotch) and a fruity berry/grape slickness. Nice burn from the 9.2% ABV. Gets thicker once warmer. Loaded with rough flavors, which should meld well with aging. Obviously super hopped but nicely balanced as well. Finishes rough and bubbly but this should age into a gem of a barleywine. RIP.

Chunky and brown; thick rich malts, dark chocolate. Still a little young, even though it is not made any more.

Dark auburn color, chunks. Big nose of Dark fruit, raisins, alcohol and sweet malt. Where does all the fruitiness go in the body? Rich malty presence, and a big hop finish, but lacking any fruit development in the body.

My sample was already aged for few years so maybe that’s why it had to floating chunks of stuff. Nice maltiness, thick and strong distinctive taste. Coffees aftertaste. Nice one.

Very dark amber color. Medium sized head, tightly carbonated, dark tan in color. Large nose of sweet and winey malt, honey and flowers. Fairly complex flavors: sweet/dark malt, roasted/nutty, citrus, bittersweet hops. Bittersweet finish, although its very warming/burning - could be smoother. Thanks Phoebe!

Murky leatehr colored; Head was thick and dense; Nose full of allspice and alcohol. Wonderful mouthfeel. Very warming. Tiny bit of citrus on the sides. Some chocolate notes at the 1/2 mark. Very filling. I really liked this one.
