3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 thesimmos (13) - Brisbane, - MAY 1, 2008
It does taste like a refined XXXX bitter with a hint of extra alcohol. like someone has put a little vodka in the beer or something.
When you have a few of these make sure you dont drink 4-6 without standing up in between. They are very smooth and It wouldnt be a problem drinking them this easily. But when you stand up you will stumble and run into a wall head first. Worth a try....

I expected better but was not too dissapointed. Tastes like a more refined XXXX Bitter. Above average for the money but falls well short of premiums.

UPDATED: OCT 2, 2007 I don’t know enough about beer to know how to explain it. I did like this brew and found it good value for money.

Gee must be hard on this one.
Clear gold colour, slighlty darker than younger brother, xxx bitter.
Just how special it is, you tell me. Just as watery, oderless and weak as xxxx bitter with extra malt.
2.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 BrewBoy15 (1) - Umina, AUSTRALIA - JAN 19, 2006 does not count
Initial taste was a rich, malty lager - definitely a close relation of XXXX Bitter, but much more robust. Not a very sweet beer, everything was at the back of the tongue, with the bitterness intensifying after going down. Unlike other premium beers, no real herbacious notes, and even the aroma was very similar to your every day lagers. Quite ’syrupy’ - like a richer version of XXXX Bitter. The premium you have when you’re not having a premium.
2.2 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 winkle (456) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - DEC 21, 2005
Woppie I’m the first to rate this little gem! Pours a marginally redder hue than the standard XXXX with a quickly vanishing head. Similar nose with some hint of malt.
Mouthfeel is quite smooth - indicating a malter presence than the standard brew and this follows through into the flavour along with some boiled vegetable. Alcohol level is reasonably balanced. OKish.
