Reddish copper, with no head. Bready, sweetish aroma - nice, if fairly non-descript. Clean and crisp, with a nice spicy, gingerbread note. Subtle, crisp citrusy hop bite at the end. On tap at Barley’s, Asheville.

Cereal, red malt aroma. Very bright, clear, red. Tangy, astringent, some vinegar, some unidentifiable vegetable - some kind of pepper - almost chipotle without the burn. Medium light sweetness. Good with the pizza at the Mellow Mushroom - on tap, Asheville.

Pint on tap. Clear copper with a small ring of cream. Mild aroma of toffee, toast, citrus and dry grass. Taste is mild toffee and a hint of citrus and toast, with a grassy-wooden hop bite on the finish. Light-medium body has medium-high carbonation and is pretty well balanced.

On tap at Mellow Mushroom Asheville on 9/21/2007. Pours a reddish amber with no head and a little lace. Nose is slightly hoppy, good malt balance--pleasent enough. This is very traditional amber with nicely balanced malts and hops. No flaws noted and alcohol well hidden. I tend to like Catawba Valleys hoppier beers better.

On tap at Barley’s Taphouse in Asheville. Amber in color. Very weak head. Low carbonation. Medium hop level. Slightly metal tasting. Not my favorite of the Catawba beers.
