Draft sample at KBJ2010. Poured hazy brownish black color with an average cfrothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good to excellent lacing. Moderate toasted nutty malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium sweet & sour flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectations where exceeded.

on tap @Brewers Jam-pours a tan head and brownish red color. Aroma is tart fruit, oak/char, medium malt. Taste follows. Kinda weird, would have liked a bit more understanding to what was attempted vs what I drank.

Red brown pour with tan head and lace. Bourbon and cherries on the aroma. Sour cherries and roasted malt flavor. A tad thin and watery but pretty decent.

2010 Knoxville Brewer’s Jam. Reddish brown, very slight beige head. The aroma is some chalky grains, lactic acid, oak, detectable barrel char. The flavor is very chaotic. Some caramel and toast notes, then some vanilla and char, then some lactic acid, then back again. Not much harmony between the beer and the barrel. Also, I think the base beer was a poor choice... I’m just guessing, but it seems like they took their regular brown ale and soured it in a barrel. Ok I guess, but a sloppy attempt.

Sampled at the 2010 Knoxville Brewer’s Jam. This was promoted as a barrel aged sour brown. Smells, well, weird. Citrusy notes mix with bourbon and vanilla. Flavor is fruity and sour, then bourbon and vanilla. A mess, really, but a delicious one...
