Quack-Duck (2770), Bodensee, Germany Jun 19, 2009 bottle, traded with Kölschtriker or DerDoppelbock, I forgot to make a note of it. Thank you anyway. Hazy golden colour with an amber glow, large off-white head. Aroma of (very) sweaty feet and some sourness. Oh dear. This one smelled as if it had turned sour, but not!The beer itself was ok. Full-bodied, very malty with nice flavours of roasted malts, caramel and toffee with a shy touch of fruit. Lingering finish, where a hoppy touch tunes in. I think I’ve never had a beer with such a discrepany between aroma and flavour. I nearly poured it into the drain because of its awful nose. eManu (110), , France May 13, 2009 The bottle made a big POUFF when open, and pours a hazy gold amber with a very thick white foam head.
Aroma is floral with some sweet malts.
Flavors are a little malty with some caramel and peach and apple fruits. A bitter sweet finish. A great ballance of flavore and very pleasant to drink. ha1ag (326), Maastricht, Netherlands Mar 14, 2009 Bottled deom Carrefour in Liege. Bottle brown, 750 ml
Appearance: Pours classic, orangy - yellowish amber body colour, body is cloudy, highly saturated, indeed very lively carbonation, head is thick, compact, very frothy, cloudy in shape, very fluffy, off white, milky or butter like in colour, perfect lacing with slowly colapsing head.
Aroma: Very complex and nice aroma, at front you can feel spicyness and aromatic flowery hoppy profile, some oilyness characteristic for Abby Tripels, what is more nice scents of dark chockolate and bitter cacao what is quite surprising for a Pale Belgian Ale, at least for me. Nice notes of wheat, graphite, whipped cream, milk, butter, butterscotch, barley malt, dust and pepper, pineapple, yeast, stale coffee beans or stale wheat grains being slightly toasted.
Flavour: Very comfortably hopped, quite strong bitterness coming from hops in the middle part of the tongue, nice spicy - fruity - flowery hoppy kick in nose, very clean and well balanced flavour, wheat, fresh, mashed barley grains, pineapple, lime, banana, clove, pepper, very spicy, moderate to strongly alcoholic but giving a positive character, toasty, very long finish, notes of coffee, dark - chockolate, cacao.
Palate: Body is full, texture is oily to dry, carbonation on palate is lively, finish feel is highly bitter, clean, yeasty, astringent, strong alcoholic but positive finish.
