Grima (1864) - Saarburg, Rhineland-Palatinate, GERMANY - DEC 21, 2010
330ml bottle from Auchan Market, Luxembourg City!
The beer in glass is, yellow pineapple with white monster-head. Smells yeasty fruity (berry), very minimally hopped. Starts also very sweet and fruity, with yeasty nuances. The aftertaste is very much influenced by the 10% alcohol, the alcoholic note runs after very long. The further course is similar. On the one hand, pleasantly fruity, sweet, very tasty yeast notes, on the other hand, almost undrinkable alcoholic. A pity, this beer have could been much more better!!

DruncanVeasey (6116) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Premier, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - DEC 1, 2010
Xmas, day 1. Bottle out of my advent crate, date expired by 3months. Unclear orange with a scant white halo and marmalade floaties. Aroma of shortbread, Twiglet and apple peel yeastiness with good Pledge-sprayed pine notes. Hot and very yeasty with notes of pine, honey, beans..maybe some festive lemon zest and dried fruits. Yeast, honey and alcohol dominate, with some paper as it warms. A beer of this potency should have ’aged’ more gracefully. Maybe it just wasn’t very good to begin with. Tired and earthy, and not a great start to the festive period. Still, 23 beers to go...

(Old BA rate - bottle) This was a complete gusher, and I’m afraid that my neighbors might call the police after hearing the pop generated by opening the swing top. At any rate, after cleaning up the huge mess, the head on this brew continued to billow into a three finger foamzilla head. Eventually, the head settled down down to a frothy white finger of foam that left some chunky lacing down the side of the glass. Hazy orange-yellow gold hue. Sweet maltiness; green grapes that are more sweet than tart; some Belgian yeastiness; light spices...touch of clove. Some citrus notes. Not bad stuff here; get a kick of booze in the flavor; some citrus; some yeastiness; hint of candied sweetness; not nearly as sweet as suggested in the nose; not as spicy, but some peppery alcohol finishes back out (even though this brew is being consumed at nearly room temp) Prickly lively carbonation to accompany the medium body that is a little viscous, especially for the style. OK sipper of a brew, but certainly not one of the best Belgian Christmas brews that I’ve had.

dEnk (2640) - Den Haag, NETHERLANDS - MAR 24, 2010
Cloudy brownish pour, small off white head. Aroma of old wine/ cheap port. Flavour is sweet bitterish fruit, liquorice and caramel. Ok, but no incentive to drink it again.

Bottle, thanks for sharing dEnk! Pours a hazy orange with a quickly dissipating white head and with floaties. Aroma is sharply spicy, slightly sour with some alcohol and not very appealing. Flavor is sweet, sugary with fruits and a slightly warming alcohol presence.
