BEER SNOB ON CLOUDS !
By jingo this pops ! Stained my entired sofa and groin (again). Although it made up for it ! Everything about this beer is dark - Pure bottled malevolence. Similar to Rochefort, perhaps even more complex in a strange way. 1980’s medicine and mulled wine. Perfect for winters night
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Noctilucus (98) - All over Belgium, BELGIUM - JAN 17, 2013
Very dark brown with burgundy highlights and a thick beige head.
A strong nose that combines malt, caramel and/or candy sugar, enough hops to come out balanced while overall it gives a sweet impression.
The taste itself is an evolving blend of roasted malts, a decent bit of bitterness, sweet but far less so than the aroma; a very full taste, also helped by the fact that there isn’t too much carbonation.
Aftertaste: more roasted malts, a slight hint of sweetness; only then the alcohol makes itself felt but never too much.
Excellent, absolutely excellent!
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Hildigöltur (5106) - København, DENMARK - AUG 22, 2002
Suberb spicy aroma with notes of nutmeg and wormwood. The appearance is wunderbar. Dark interesting colour with a huge and creamy head and some sediment. The flavour contains complex bitter and sweet notes. A great brew.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 GarethYoung (1109) - Glasgow, SCOTLAND - NOV 9, 2006
[2L bottle says best before 2001 from Magic_Dave6 and Little_hawk for my 21st birthday] Rich aroma of jamaica cake, clove spiked tangerine floating in pedro ximenez sherry, slightly oxidised with age in a good way, notes of hazelnut and almond, still fruity, notes of plum and strawberry, massively complex, chocolate and toasty notes, earthy like a cork gardening mat sitting in wet soil, background notes of chocolate, coffee and iron oxide. Full body with a tickling carbonation, milk chocolate and prunes are prominent on the palate with cookie dough and cherry notes providing depth. Alcohol is well concealed but a slight peppery alcohol note comes through on the long, dry finish. Excellent at this age.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 AshtonMcCobb (1490) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - AUG 5, 2011
33cl bottle. Pours almost opaque black with a slight plummy hue and a small but nice head, which reduces to a thin layer of yeast. The nose has cake mixture, maybe rye bread and prunes. The taste has a malt loaf with treacle, then a chocolate note on the end. In fact, it’s like bread soaked in a prune liqueur. The palate has huge depth of flavour, a thick texture which coats the mouth and a crisp yeasty finish - perfect! Overall, this has been a great find - I thought the fancy bottle was all for show, but this is great.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 thanatosti (606) - NETHERLANDS - MAY 8, 2013
33 cl. flip top bottle @ home, bought somewhere in Belgium. Pours very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, flowers and hops. Upon tasting tones of chocolate and coffee come to the surface. Soft carbonation and a very long aftertaste. Great beer.
4.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Papsoe (25129) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - JUL 23, 2005
(Bottle 33 cl) Dark amber - but far from as dark as most "Brunes". Rather limited head. Aromas are not very strong, but as soon as the first drops hit your buds it’s as if you’re in Heaven. Malty and slightly licorice-like to start with, with some nice brown sugars as well. Vannilla and dried fruits in there too. The sweetness is quickly relieved by a dry but not overpowering bitterness. 280100

I sampled all three Bon Secours beers over te Christmas holiday, and they all impressed me greatly. This one pours dark brown with a malt, toffee, fruity, aroma. Malty, extremely fruity taste, with a firm palate. Tons of fruit, and silky smooth. Get ya some.

It was a bit dark in the bar, but this appeared caramel-colored under a cream-colored skin which left a slight, watery lace. Aroma finds an estery layer of fruit hovering above a well-malted base. What a great, sweet, malted presence in the flavor with a touch of grit on the tongue and light acidity to finish. A sweet & sour medley that works oh-so-well.
