Strange aroma of sour lactic and hops. Cloudy, honey color, white rocky head. Sweet, fruity (tangerine, light banana). Short, soft finish with some orange.

Bottled (from thebelgianbeershop.com). BBE in 2007. Hazy golden colour with huge off-white head. Aroma is sweet malts along with yeast, some grassyness and also mild fruity and wooden notes. Flavour is quite much the same along with some herbal notes. Big yeasty and grassy finish.

Ungstrup (23960) - Oamaru, NEW ZEALAND - OCT 1, 2007
Bottled. A slightly hazy golden beer with a medium beige head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of fruit and yeast, but also some dusty hoppy notes, the fruits are mainly peaches. The flavor is sweet with notes of fruit, prunes, and dusty hops, as well as some quite spicy elderberries, leading to a dry and quite dusty finish.

Has that typical hearty characteristic, as usual, for the Belgian stuff...this one seems a bit smokey on the palate though. Maybe a little bitter and acidic too. Overall, nothing different and unusual than what I had been drinking a lot of at the time (transcribing from notes).

Pours a hazy golden amber, topped by half an inch of white foam. Okay head retention and lacing. Fruity and slight malty and slightly flowery aroma. Sweetish beer up front with caramel, candi sugar, and some sort of fruit - maybe apricot. Then it is pretty dry and grainy with a bite from the carbonation. The hops are there for balance, but they keep a low profile - more floral than spicy or bitter. Fairly smooth beer, medium body with ample carbonation.

The swing-top bottle is labelled "11.2 oz" but looks to be 500 ml, sure enough it turns out to be so as I pour it into my Chouffe tulip....a huge frothy white head ensues, abundantly lacing the glass atop the very heazy yeast-flecked golden body....the aroma is doughy-soft, yeasty-sour with noticeable hints of marzipan and sour cherry, lightly pungent and quite pleasant....body offers lots of sour fruits, a light and refreshing, moderate-to-high carbonation, honey and some faint herbal-grassy notes....nothing much in the way of Saaz hoppiness, but I found this pretty pleasant and enjoyable as a light, simple forget-about-it Belgian ale.

Bottle from Super Saver. Hazy deep golden pour with 1-finger off-white head. Aroma of heavy citrus and hops, soem fruit, and some yeasty cobwebby funk notes. The flavor was citrusy, with a fruity malt presence, some lime, apricot, and even some cacao notes as it warmed.

Pilsner hops and creamy fruit Belgium creamy yeast. Expires in one year. Yeasty malty aroma. Light orange fruity and creamy, with sediment. Medium plus mouthfull unexpected, active carbonation, fresh, fruity, sugar, a touch metallic. Unique Belgium found at SuperSavers, NJ.

Bottle (Utobeer): BIg spicy estery nose with pepper, allspice, pineapple and lemon. Golden colour with a huge, fluffy head. It kept trying to creep out of the bottle! Body is a little thin. Sweetish fresh fruit notes, with a suprising almost tart grape mid. Spicy, bitter dry finish. Interesting, but not great.

Bottled best before 5/07. Pours a clear, light copper color with a huge frothy, white head. Malty aroma with yeasty notes of bananas and spice. This one is a bit strange to me. The flavor is rather thin. It’s spicy and astringent with a dry finish. Nice bitterness.

Ok, so the Saaz name would lead one to believe that it has a decent hop backbone to it. Well not only did the aroma fail to express hops, it also didn’t have any in the taste. To me this was a watered down version of their Bon Secours Amber or blonde. Flavors of spice, fruit and yeast come through, rather dissapointed with this beer
