COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Full of rich complex malt flavours. Using a broad mix of chocolate and crystal malts, the Cavalier Brown delivers an initial burst of caramel sweetness, followed by a dry, crisp roasted note. The perfect mix of chocolate and toasty caramel flavours. With added complexity aromas from classic American hops add subtle citrus notes that will reveal something new in every sip.

Pours black with ruby highlights and a large, lasting head. Nose shows chocolate, roasted malt, nutty notes and, later on, some coffee. Pretty decent. Similar flavours really; cocoa, coffee, roasted malt. Could use more sweetness/less roasty coffee. Carbonation is pretty much spot-on, however it could use a lighter body.

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours chestnut brown with a small, firm off white head. Nose is loaded with chocolate malts and light nutty under tones. Slightly sweet and biscuity in the taste but the chocolate shines in this. Slightly ashy on the finish. Seems to be half way between a brown and a porter. Nice beer

330mL bottle, pours dark brown with a big chocolate aroma. Has a sweetness to begin with followed by ash and chocolate. Nice beer.

330ml bottle. Very highly carbonated as there is a big whoosh when you pop the cap and the glass fills with heaps of loosely condensed brown foam that takes a while to a settle. The beer itself is a dark brown colour and looks solid. Aromas of coffee beans and chocolate. Lively in the mouth with lots of chocolate in the flavour, very tasty.

Looks a picture when poured on tap at beer de luxe. Lovely body supported soft roast and delicious chocolate. Warming in the glass as it is now, the malt takes on greater complexity. A nicely wrought beer and great to see brown ales making a come back.

On tap at Atticus Finch. Nice malt-driven beer. Aromas of caramel, liquorice, and cola. Taste is sweet, with light bitterness, a hint of sourness, and average length. Palate is velvety, and medium bodied. Brown, with a frothy head.

Not bad. There’s a good hit of chocolate sweetness, more so on the palate rather than nose, and mild bubbles allow the flavours to come through nicely. I didn’t really pick any overt hop impact but there some bitterness in the back palate (just doesn’t seem ’hoppy’). Finish is roasty and dry.

Bottle. Pours a nice light mahogany with smallish tan coloured head. Burnt grain aromas are very prominant. Some sweet light caramel and pine resin shows through but I am struggling to get past the burnt grain. Flavours are initially on the sweetish side rather thin through the middle before a big whack of pine resin on the finish. Thinnish mouthfeel.

Bottle, 9C. Lovely clear mahogany with a light beige head that laces well. Aroma of toffee, nuts, raisins, a little chocolate, grass. Velvety mouthfeel. Taste is rich and sweet at first with toffee and butterscotch, raisins, dates. Bitterness creeps up and balances nicely - some roasted, some pine and grass. The somewhat buttery English style malts married with American hops might bother some, but worked fine for me. Pine really creeps up at the end. Tasty.
