Brewed with elderflower.

Saison Cazeau is a light white beer, refermented in the bottle, with 5% alcohol content. As well as the Pilsen malt and two hops which give it a really nice bitter flavour, Saison is laced with elderflowers (Sambucus Nigra L.) which make it really refreshing. The elderflower only blooms for three weeks between mid-May and mid-June, which means that production of our Saison is very time-limited.

Not much in here, light and thin- some fruitiness in the flavor, but most of the body seems to come from yeast. Bottle from Ryan Blanksi’s Sourfest- Hollywood, Florida.

In short: A pleasantly soft and flowery wild blonde ale. Superb smooth session beer.
How: Bottle 750ml, consumed not-so-fresh-not-so-old, about 8 months before expiration date
The look: Dirty blonde topped by a long-lasting medium white head
In long: Pleasant nose of lemon muffin, countryside flowers and wilderness. Taste is very soft, this is not a very tasty beer. While drinking the beer I had a strong sensation of drinking the juice of seasonal garden “yellow flowers”. The beer is very wild, undoubtedly a Saison, but not to the point of being funky. Some herbal notes reminiscent of basil or something of that nature. Some dust. Lemon skin. The finish has more flowers and is semi-dry without much bitterness. I’m amazed at the low ratings on this one. Of course the beer is not intense (it is actually far from intense) but this is a superb moderately wild session beer. Seems that when a beer is sold in 750ml people want a hard-hitting tasty beer, but this one is a very nice session beer that I’d love to drink by the pints at my local pub. This super nice and criminally underrated beer has got to be one of Belgium beset kept secret. I will remain a secret because I can keep a secret. It’s the people I tell it to who cannot.

From bottle. Blonde. Honey and elderflower in the aroma Citrus, honey and elderflower in the flavor. Just a touch of alcohol. Well balanced, maybe a bit too perfumed saison with a sticky mouthfeel.

750ml Bottle: Faint aroma of slight yest, slight citrus, and slight elderflower. Poured yellow/flaxen in color with a huge, foamy, pillowy, rocky, white head that diminished but lasted throughout. Cloudy. Sparkling. Full of tiny particles throughout. Good lacing. Flavor is slightly sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of light Pils malts, hops, light yeast, slight elderflower, and a hint of minerals. Medium body. Tingly, dry texture. Lively carbonation. Pils malt, slight citrus, and slight yeast finish is dry.

Lautre Oeil, with Mathieu. White head on golden body. Very lacey afterwards. Not a praticularly interesting or spicey saison, but also late in the evening and palate may have been overloaded with extreme beer. 700th Belgian style beer I am told I am reviewing, for people who keep count of these things.
