Brewed with elderflower.

Saison Cazeau is a light white beer, refermented in the bottle, with 5% alcohol content. As well as the Pilsen malt and two hops which give it a really nice bitter flavour, Saison is laced with elderflowers (Sambucus Nigra L.) which make it really refreshing. The elderflower only blooms for three weeks between mid-May and mid-June, which means that production of our Saison is very time-limited.

750ml from Capone’s, Norristown. Huge prickly carbonation makes this beer boom out of the bottle, with an unruly head and some decent lacing. Pleasant golden body if you can find it. The nose is quite sharp, almost spicy, with a touch of fruitiness in there. You can’t really ignore the presence of the flowers, which give it a kind of raw, earthen quality in the taste. While I enjoy that dimension, it does kind of crowd the other qualities out. Not bad.

Biscuits and light flowery fruit. Cloves are apparent in the aroma also. Very drinkable.

Bottle. Slighty cloudy golden color, lasting white head. Spicy lemon aroma, which follows through to the flavor. Some chalky notes and malts as well. Medium body, high carbonation. Not the best saison I’ve had, but not bad either.

Bottled 75cl. Aroma has dusty yeast, lots of citrus and elderflowers. hazy, yellow coloured with a medium, white head. The taste is a bit sweet and a bit sour with a decent hopbitter background. The taste is flowery, citric and yeasty/dusty/earthy. Nicely balanced. Medium bodied.

Hazy yellow with a thick creamy white head. Mild aroma of spices, elderflower and fresh grass. Clean refreshing taste where the elderflowers comes throuh even better leaving quite a dry mouthfeel.

Not much in here, light and thin- some fruitiness in the flavor, but most of the body seems to come from yeast. Bottle from Ryan Blanksi’s Sourfest- Hollywood, Florida.

In short: A pleasantly soft and flowery wild blonde ale. Superb smooth session beer.
How: Bottle 750ml, consumed not-so-fresh-not-so-old, about 8 months before expiration date
The look: Dirty blonde topped by a long-lasting medium white head
In long: Pleasant nose of lemon muffin, countryside flowers and wilderness. Taste is very soft, this is not a very tasty beer. While drinking the beer I had a strong sensation of drinking the juice of seasonal garden “yellow flowers”. The beer is very wild, undoubtedly a Saison, but not to the point of being funky. Some herbal notes reminiscent of basil or something of that nature. Some dust. Lemon skin. The finish has more flowers and is semi-dry without much bitterness. I’m amazed at the low ratings on this one. Of course the beer is not intense (it is actually far from intense) but this is a superb moderately wild session beer. Seems that when a beer is sold in 750ml people want a hard-hitting tasty beer, but this one is a very nice session beer that I’d love to drink by the pints at my local pub. This super nice and criminally underrated beer has got to be one of Belgium beset kept secret. I will remain a secret because I can keep a secret. It’s the people I tell it to who cannot.

From bottle. Blonde. Honey and elderflower in the aroma Citrus, honey and elderflower in the flavor. Just a touch of alcohol. Well balanced, maybe a bit too perfumed saison with a sticky mouthfeel.
