Pours dark brown with an inch khaki foam that leaves a lot of lacing Big caramel and malt and mistletoe on the nose. First whiff smelled like Christmas Lots of sweetness on the tongue , with a nice amount of breadiness Finishes clean Overall very nice

Pours a somewhat hazy sepia with a fairly thick and foamy light tan head. Robust aroma has an overtone of caramel with touches of cloves and cinnamon and a hoppy hint. Flavor has a bold sweet malty note plus caramel, spice and hoppy tones, a hint of licorice, a touch of fresh-cut wood. Thick, syrupy flavor has some good fizz, if not a lot. A very enjoyable ale any time of year.

8/III/13 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ home - BB: IX/2014 (2013-224)

Clear dark brown beer, small beige head, unstable, bit adhesive. Aroma: spicy, some cloves, paint, chocolate, overripe fruit. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: some caramel, dried fruits, spices, bitter hops, cloves. Aftertaste: some caramel, little bitter, overripe fruits, some mocha, spicy, alcohol, hoppy ending.

Bottle. Pours clear dark red with a light lacing and full lasting dense off-white medium head. Aroma is malty, black currant, dark toffee, prune, strawberries, pear-drop, banana, roasted malt, hops, nut, straw, bubblegum, spices. Taste is near medium sweet, bitter with a well integrated light sourness. Body is medium+, texture is creamy, carbonation is medium. Finish is rather short malty and a little warming. Nice balance between malts, hops and the yeast-signature. The beer is primarily malt-driven, but packs more hops than expected, and the esters aren’t overwhelming. The light sourness makes it almost refreshing too. There isn’t a lot of taste as such, but the balance is great as long it doesn’t get near lukewarm.

Bottle @ tasting. Aroma is caramel malts, oliebollen and winter spices. Flavour is caramel, malts, slight roast and christmas spices. Too spicy for me.

Bottle at home. Hazy brown pour, thin white head. Aroma is quite spicy with speculaas, slightly roasty and cardamom. Flavor is bitter spicy, but mostly sweet with sugary malts. Decent balance and body.

11.01.13 Ølkonsortiets julekalender. Uts: klar, dyp kobberfarget, rikelig og holdbart beige skum. Duft: fruktig og fyldig, sødme og noe humle. Smak: fyldig og søtlig, noe tørket frukt og god balanse. Deilig ettersmak.

Dark brown, mostly clear with big frothy tan head. Malty dark base, roasty, cereal and nuts. Good amount of hop backup. Tinteling palate that packs a good amount of flavour, both bitter and roasted. Warming ending. Surprising winter beer that?s hop forward yet still works very well as end of the year treat. Awesome! (33cl bottle from De Bierwinkel Leiden)

Pours deep mahogany into a snifter. Off-white head with good retention recedes leaving scant sheets. Dark caramel, pit fruit and spice aromas. Dark pumpernickel upfront turning to sweet dark toffee and juniper in the lasting earthy finish.
