"Objectively … the best stout in the world! Savour it with your dessert - with an ice cream and spéculoos, for example - and close your eyes: it’s like entering a torrefaction workshop … This beer is the favourite of the brewer, who has always adored stout. “But I mean real Stout, not oversweet gassy liquids!”. With an aim of finding a fairly marked coffee after-taste, we have chosen to use the most torrefied barley malt that can be found on the market - Black malt at 1400 EBC. As this malt is a bit acrid, we have “corrected” it by using another slightly caramelized malt (150 EBC), and some brown sugar. So that the hops can exist alongside these strong caramelized and torrefied malt flavours, we have mainly opted for the strong American hop, Tomahawk."

Very deep brown body with a tan and fully lasting head that laces the glass well. Moderate aroma of roasted malt and baker’s yeast, with a generic fruity background, raisins and ash. Strong flavour of dark roasted malt, Belgian yeast and spices, and coffee, fruits and hints of solvent in the back. Moderate bitter taste. Mid-bodied, oily texture, soft carbonation. An ok brew, but both the baker’s yeast in the aroma and the unclean alcohol notes make this one a bit too close to a homebrew.

Bottle shared at Johan (i think, it was a while ago), thanks! Blackish with beige-tan head. Aroma has dried fruits, roasted malt, rum, alcohol and fairly dry malt notes. Taste has hints of chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, rum, alcohol with a slight fruity alcoholic finish.

Dark brown color. Has a bright aroma of rum, dried fruits, and some roasted notes. No hop aroma. Lighter body with a bright stout. High attenuation (it is Belgian after all), making this a very easy to drink stout. Notes of light chocolate, rum, roasted malts, touch of lighter roasted coffee, dried fruits, herbs, and a noticable alcohol. Good stuff. A nice change from the heavy chocolate milk bombs that are seeming to take over the high gravity stout world.

154 Cazeau Tournay Noire Ar - 7 Ap - 5 Fl - 7 P - 3 O - 15 Rate – 3.7 Very dark brown in color. BIG tight bubbled light tan head. Aromas of toasted to roasted malt with a backdrop of citric hops. Nice lace. Quite light in feel and the carbonation is light enough to ensure it is not fizzy. Hints of toasted malt sweetness in the front that dries out into the finish and linger to a wisp of ash and touch of charcoal. If you wait long enough a hint of caramel and roasted malt returns. A easy enough brew to quaff. A black brew for a hot day, this would work. 5/10

Bottle from the Beer Emporium, Bristol. Poured a deep mahogany brown with a small but lasting off-white head. Aroma of chocolate, malt and coffee. Medium sweetness, with moderate roasted bitterness. Full body, thick texture, average carbonation with initially fizzy mouthfeel. Finish is stronger on coffee. with a lingering coffee tia-maria like sweetness.
