Bottle conditioned, 330ml at Bier Circus, Brussels. Black with tan head. The real deal and the best beer of the whole trip. Smooth and dark chocolate, roasty but with a sweetish fruity background. Full and mouth filling, an absolute belter. The additional alcohol just peeked out from behind the malts. Liked it lots.

This smells of a chocolate chip pumpernickel rye loaf and taste almost exactly the same. The yeast is here to dance all the way through but not unabashedly so, just enough to balance the roasted malt frame and slight anise accents. The body and heft make this a prime candidate for more than one, so easy going and measured with it’s carbonation. Nice nice beer. Thank you Cazeau. 2011 11.7 oz. bottle.

(Bottle into pint glass) Very surprising for a stout!! Poured like most stouts with a strong black color and finger and a half foamy light brown head. The nose was reminiscent of many other Belgians, with the sweetness prevailing. The malts were well toasted and there were hints of both molasses and chocolate present. Taking a taste had these same flavors come through along with a light hint of coffee that provided a very pleasant aftertaste. A great find!

Very stout looking beer. Black, no light passes this one. Light brown head, but not big. Looks still. Smell is almost non-existing. Full very little carbonating malty ale. Not strong, neither sweet, like often stouts are, perhaps that’s the reason why this is categorized with foreign prefix. Aroma is bread, grass and dough and very impressive way in balance. But something is missing. This lacks somehow kick. With that minor defect this is truly a very good beer.

Mmmmm, very tasty! Poured with a large, foamy, frothy, textured light tan head and lots of good lace. Aroma is malty, yeasty, and spicey with a bit of cocoa and licorice. Flavor is great with the aroma qualities and a nice play between bitter, dry, and sweet, some roastiness. Body is very smooth and rounded and appropriate carbonation. Finish is like flavor and is super easy drinking. Guy could be greedy with this stuff.

Bottled @ EBF 2008. Dark brown, almost black body with a big beige head. Aroma is roasted malt and spicy. Flavor is sweet, roasted malt, some coffee, fruity and a bit spicy. A nice mix of Belgium ale and stout, balanced.

Bottle. A sweet-malty smell, light alcoholic, very drinkable, also with some dark chocolate. The creamy light brown head is medium strong with a normal duration. The body is black. The taste is light bitter, quite malty, dark chocolate. The body is creamy, medium strong and with a strong carbonation.

Tasted this in the Rose Red Cafe, Brugges in April 2012. 33cl bottle. Dull black in colour with a thick light tan coloured head. Long pleasant aroma of bitter chocolate and black coffee. Thick oily mouthfeel and good lacing. Dark malts give a strong roast malt character with plenty of dark bitter chocolate, mocha coffee, liquorice and dry currants. Sharp smokey prickle of earthy hops present in the dry bitter aftertaste. Finish is again dry and malty with liquorice long in the mouth. An excellent stout and well recommended.

Shared with mm. Bottle had a little age on it. Dark brown pour with good ring of light brown head. Sweet dark cherry and chocolate and a little biscuit. Flavor follows nicely and again has the faint bready yeasty notes that give this a good full chewy body. Smooth and creamy finish. This was my favorite of the tournay beers that i’ve tried.
