2.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 JensenTaster (1718) - - DEC 26, 2004
Colacolor and no head, this is a very dark vienna.Has a sour, mashy-like sent, that actually comes out quite fresh. Full malt flavour, no more, no less and a bit of chestnut in the finish.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Foffern (285) - Bergen, NORWAY - DEC 22, 2011
Bottle at home. A deep, golden redbrown beer. Frothy, light beige head which fades fast. Lot of carbonation at first. The aroma and flavours are of dried fruits of dades and raisins, but also leather and some chocolate malt and hint of metal. Light bitterness. Thin and watery mouthfeel. Overall a decent and well-balanced nordic-style christmas beer. Nothing less, nothing more.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 tfredvik (375) - Oslo, NORWAY - DEC 16, 2011
Quelle surprise, a dark brown body with a medium-sized light brown head! Fair head retention, ok lacing. The aroma is also pretty standard: sweet malty with caramel and roasted notes. On the palate, however, this beer absolutely stands out from most of the other Norwegian macro brewery christmas beers: the taste is light sweet with a whooping medium plus bitterness that really bites. Roasted flavours with spices and grapefruit. It’s fruity, but not the usual dark fruits, here are hoppy grapefruit! Surprisingly thin feel for a beer of this ABV, but ok. A faint metal note is a bit disturbing in the beginning, but is soon forgotten. Rather dry finish. A fun interpretation of the classic christmas beer.
[33 cl bottle, from Vinmonopolet Alna, Oslo]
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Palme (1437) - Bergen, NORWAY - DEC 6, 2011
0.33l bottle that pours a really really deep ruby-brown body with a big fluffy khaki head. The aroma has some anonymous caramel and cardboard tones and also a hint of mineral water and hops. Average carbonation levels and a light oily mouthfeel. Not bad flavors, but also here a bit anonymous. Some dark caramel tones and a distinct hint of alcohol in the aftertaste. Think this is the first CB beer I ever taste, and it’s not horrible at all.

Pours brown with a thin tanned head. Smells of roasted caramel malts, hints of burned rubber, clove and cinnamon. Taste of caramel and malts, tons of sweetness. Too much for me. Some malt bitterness in finish
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Cunningham (1940) - Halden, NORWAY - OCT 30, 2011
UPDATED: MAR 4, 2012 Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Halden, Norway. Dark brown colour with a tan head. The usual deep caramel and some roasted malt in the aroma. A bit more light flavour than the usual bottom fermented norwegian christmas beers. Lots of caramel and light fruity flavour.
2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Tequilakongen (287) - Oslo, NORWAY - OCT 23, 2011
Mostly sweet in taste, but the finish is distinclty bitter and very long lasting. The aroma is malty sweet, particularly of caramel. Dark brown colour with an off-white head. This one had passed the the expiration date by some three months. Still, I don’t think it had lost much in character (I’m originally from the town where this is made and have had many previous encounters with it). It will be interesting to compare with the one for this year though, which should be right around the corner now. (Bottle)
