3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jgb9348 (3494) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - OCT 10, 2010
Hazy golden coloured body with a white head and a bunch of bubbles rising from the sides and bottom of the glass. Aroma of honey, wheat, coriander seed, sugar and a touch of lemons - no hops in the smell. Medium-bodied; Light hoppiness up front with some malt, coriander seed, yeast and a touch of wheat tucked in the back. Aftertaste shows a hop bitterness, some light sweetness and a good clean refreshing citrus character. Overall, not an english pale by any means, more of a belgian ale to me, but a refreshing taste - a new brewery and a style that you don’t typically see much in the land of everything should be bigger and stronger. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York on 04-September-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 10-October-2010.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 vyvvy (2920) - Florissant, Missouri, USA - FEB 9, 2010
Pours clear golden with a white head that doesn’t last long. The aroma has lightly toasted pale malt, some spicy hops and a bit of plastic. The body is fairly light and crisp with some graininess to the texture and flowing sharp carbonation. The taste has pale malt that’s on the husky side with quite a bit of spicy clean hops and some citrus (the citrus doesn’t seem to be from hops). The finish is spicy, crisp and clean. Nice beer.
2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 17thfloor (2300) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 20, 2010
Bottle. Gusher! Pours a clear odd looking pee-yellow color with a tall thin big sticky airy white foamy gusher head. Aroma is sweet and juicy, lots of tropical fruits, lightly metallic, orange, pineapple, vanilla. Flavor is metallic and bright, juicy, weirdly sweet and medicinal, yellow cough-syrup finish. Corse fizzy carbonation, watery, bitter aftertaste.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 FunkyBrewster (1382) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 6, 2010
Thanks to 17thfloor for sharing. Pours barely hazy light orange with a thick pillowy white head. Aroma has some pungent fruity hops and a light lemongrass character, almost saison like with the sharp citric notes and light malts. Flavor starts with a surprisingly sharp character, mildly tart with lemon and other citric fruits. Finishes with a somewhat bland and rough character, leaving a plastic note in the aftertaste. Medium body and a super heavy and biting carbonation. I wish several things, better, finish, less, carbonation, more complexity and hop character.
