COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Unfiltered in bottle and keg.
Pierre Celis created the original Hoegaarden beer in the early 1960’s. Interbrew-Labatt bought the brand and the brewery in the 1980's. Pierre Celis formed a new brewery in Austin Texas, brewing the same beer but under the brand name Celis White. Miller bought the Celis brewery and the Celis White brand-name in 1996. The brewery closed in 2000. In late 2002 Michigan Brewing bought the Celis White brand from Miller. Brouwerij Van Steenberge is now brewing the original Pierre Celis White under the brand-name Celis White in Europe and Ertveld's Wit in North America.

Famed because of its creator, now brewed by Van Steenberge, tasted both as Celis White and as Gensch Manneken Pies. Yellowish blonde, hazy witbier with cream white, thin head, soft character, elegant, coriander clearly present, wheat sourishness, yeasty with somewhat powdery mouthfeel, lightly dry finish. Quite okay, like an artisanal version of Hoegaarden Witbier, but I had many better examples of the style.

Troebel lichtgeel bier zonder schuim. Smaak is typisch witbier, licht zuur, citroen, koriander. Gemiddeld bier.

Retrogusto prolongado, afrutado y reseco. Refrescante pero algo dulzona. 250ml bottle. Octogonal shape Bruggs Chalice. Pale straw color, cloudy appearance. White froth, rings on sides & floating yeast on top. Coriander & citric, biscuit, herbal & subtle spiced aromas. Sweet malt, biscuit & herbal flavors at first sip. Medium to light body. Moderately high carbonation. Oily to watery texture. Low bitterness, delicate citric pulp – tangerine- & light spiced flavors resolve in a sweet finish. Long fruity & dried spiced aftertaste. Refreshing but quite cloying sweetness.

Keg at Six Deg North. It pours cloudy gold with a medium white head. The nose is wheat, dough, herbal notes, barnyard, pepper and hay. The taste is crisp, doughy, cream cheese, orange peel, sherbet, hay, wheat and a dough of spice with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Decent enough wit.
