Commercial Description:
Unfiltered in bottle and keg.
Pierre Celis created the original Hoegaarden beer in the early 1960’s. Interbrew-Labatt bought the brand and the brewery in the 1980's. Pierre Celis formed a new brewery in Austin Texas, brewing the same beer but under the brand name Celis White. Miller bought the Celis brewery and the Celis White brand-name in 1996. The brewery closed in 2000. In late 2002 Michigan Brewing bought the Celis White brand from Miller. Brouwerij Van Steenberge is now brewing the original Pierre Celis White under the brand-name Celis White in Europe and Ertveld's Wit in North America.

(Draught at Bishops Arms, Västra Hamngatan, Göteborg) Served ice cold. Shady grape color, small white head. Lime and pine scent, mixed with some estery banana. Spritzy high co2 mouthfeel. Sweet somewhat acidic and lemon taste, some Belgian ale and banana taste as well. Low bitterness.

Bottle. Hazy blonde with a nice big mostly lasting white head leaving a good lacing. Fruity, yeasty, banana and bit sweet citrus aroma. Flavour of yeast and wheat, banana, plenty of fruitiness, bit sourish. Yeasty fruity finish. Tasty fruity Belgian wheat beer! 13th of May 2008: Also tasted as "Gensch Mannekes Pies" and still a very fruity tasty ale (also 3.6).

I have had all three verisons of this beer and the best was the texas one. It tasted like cascade was the hop in the texas verison but I know it wasn’t. A little thin but good.Page 112 of Michael Jacksons Great Beer Guide and only 190 out 500 Classic Brews to go.

Bottle at home. A nice witbier. This is a style I am getting to like more and more. Colour is creamy yellow. Quite citrusy. Could detect pineapple too. Refreshing.

(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm) Yellow colour, rather cloudy, with rocky white head. Fruity nose with banana, vanilla and ... custard? Fruity taste with the same notes of banana, vanilla and custard mingling with citrus (mandarin, lemon) and notes of Wrigleys Juicy Fruit. Rather sweet, more fruity than spicy. Easy to drink, but actually quite tasty. Very summery (although this is february and the snow is falling down). On the philosophic side: a begian beer style brewed in Belgium for an American brewery. That would make this a Belgian American Belgian white?

Pale, clearish haze with a thin creamy head. Large, visible pip-like pieces of sediment. Pineapple sweetness and a sour tang of citrussy lemon. A potent dose of coriander followed by some lovely biscuity notes long after the swallow. Very fruity and very wheaty. A refreshingly tangy Wit. (Re-rate) A dusting of clove. Bittersweet, slightly sickly Witbier sodden with estery banana fruitiness.

Hazy unclear pale yellow. Aroma and taste of yeast, wheat & citrus. Little lemon & spice - coriander. Dry slight bitter finish. Funky fresh! . Very pleasant & drinkable. Good Belgium Witbier.
