COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Unfiltered in bottle and keg.
Pierre Celis created the original Hoegaarden beer in the early 1960’s. Interbrew-Labatt bought the brand and the brewery in the 1980's. Pierre Celis formed a new brewery in Austin Texas, brewing the same beer but under the brand name Celis White. Miller bought the Celis brewery and the Celis White brand-name in 1996. The brewery closed in 2000. In late 2002 Michigan Brewing bought the Celis White brand from Miller. Brouwerij Van Steenberge is now brewing the original Pierre Celis White under the brand-name Celis White in Europe and Ertveld's Wit in North America.

Flavor of honey and spices, not so much about malt, color is pale yellow with tiny orange tone. Medium sweet, quite thick for Witbier, sour-sweet aftertaste. To me is not very interesting. Light lasing too.

Off the tap with Rock_Buffalo at Little Brussels in Canberra. Pours murky with a normal head. Sweet, light finish with faint country aromas. Easy to drink however nothing especially impressive or noteworthy.

WhoU (102) - Cape Town, SOUTH AFRICA - DEC 5, 2013
Bottle at Cape Town Festival of Beer 2013. Pours murky white yellow lemon sorbet with light head. Citrus and lemon aroma. Medium sweetness, taste and probably a winner for the ladies. Not bad, not the best.

(Bottle): Pours a murky pale golden colour with a white head. Aroma of orange peel, lemon zest, herbs, floral notes. Flavour is very citrus based, orange peel and lemon zest come through. Sweet malt background detected with a slightly weird herb and soapy finish. Not bad overall but wont seek it out again.

VinegarStroke (208) - Napa, California, USA - NOV 28, 2013
Bottle: Tasted some time in the late 90’s or early 2000’s. Purchased at Roseville in Sydney. Still remember vividly to this day. Remember thinking that it was far better than Hoogaarden. Haven’t been able to find it for year and then read about it in a blog last week. Pale. Cloudy. Great head. Very fresh fine aromas. Citrus, spice, blossom and malt. Dry, slight sour edge and just perceivable bitterness. The palate was very long and fine. Drier than most wheat beers and much more refreshing. Layers of complexity. This is the stuff of legend.

25 cl bottle 5.0% abv. Murdy pale colour. Aroma with fruit and flowers. Taste has more acidity than hoegaarden wit. Also orange peel and flowery notes. Good but not great.

Nice head/body color contrast, almost like a perfect fried egg. Banana bread aroma. Lemony banana flavor, cake, creamy finish. Not overly complex but a quite refreshing and enjoyable Belgian white.

25cl bottle from Vanuxeem. Reading the history of this beer after a long day just gives me a headache.. so I’ll just say to me this tastes like a hazier version of Hoegaarden. I need to have a bottle of both to really compare tho.
