Pierre Celis created the original Hoegaarden beer in the early 1960’s. Interbrew-Labatt bought the brand and the brewery in the 1980's. Pierre Celis formed a new brewery in Austin Texas, brewing the same beer but under the brand name Celis White. Miller bought the Celis brewery and the Celis White brand-name in 1996. The brewery closed in 2000. In late 2002 Michigan Brewing bought the Celis White brand from Miller. Brouwerij Van Steenberge is now brewing the original Pierre Celis White under the brand-name Celis White in Europe and Ertveld's Wit in North America.

25 ml. bottle. Hazy pale yellow colour, good head, but not much retention. Big lace. Smell is faint in comparison to some others belgian white: orange, coriander, fruits, some spices and pepper. Normal carbonartion, medium body. Fizzy. Taste is the same as nose. Being the "original" white belgian I was expecting much more. It pales in comparison to Hoegarden, IMO.

Bouteille 33cl sous ’Gentse Mannekes Pies’, no BB.

From elcervecero. In Teku glass. After dinner. Very pleasant aroma and taste, with just the adequate amount of coriander. Very refreshing and drinkable. A shame its too short bottle size

Incomparablement fruité, complexe, floral, doux, léger, désaltérant. Bien citronné et qui évite l’écueil des saveurs artificielles et superflues. Ma meilleure blanche àlabelge pour le moment.

250ml bottle bought at Gorgeous Wine & Cigar in Yuen Long.

Cloudy hazy pale straw golden colour with traces of yeast sediments; Half finger head with crumpety white foam which last for 1 minutes; Very good sticky lacing and zero carbonation; Fragrant aroma of malt, with very strong wheat and tartness, orange peel, coriander, light banana, floral, light sugar, spices, lemon and grass; Mid to light sweet taste of light malt, with strong wheat, thin tartness, light coriander, light oranges, fair molasses, strong earth, light spices, thin lemon, thin bitter hops and faint grass; Close to light body. Slick and creamy palate; Mouth feel is light maltyness in a thick and smooth background. Lots of wheat but tartness is light. Light but fair amount of coriander and oranges, mixed with nice molasses, pretty strong earth and fairly tasty spices. Very light lemon to round. Pretty good!... Hoppiness is spices, lemon and grass in nose. Strong earth, spices, light lemon in taste; Bitterness is very low for an abrupt, nil astringent wheaty spicy finish; Fairly dry after taste. Smooth and very easy to mouth.

Comments: This is almost like the bottled Hoegaarden, but with better fruity estery aroma, and a bit more spicy character in taste. Very quaffable, although a bit more expressive in spice and herbs will be better!

Bottle. Hazy golden body with a thin white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of pollen, banana and corn flakes. Flavour of tangy lemon, bergamot, flower petals and Earl Grey tea. Medium body with a creamy texture. Soft fizz. A tangy, floral Witbier.

25cl bottle at ’t Oud Liefken in Waarschoot (1 IV 2016), shared with a friend. An off-bright yellow coloured - fluorescent even - pale looking wheat beer with a soapy white foam on top. This classic Celis White has some very atypical white beer flavours. It has loads of lemons and sourness in the nose, yet the taste artificially like javel. And still... the taste is not that unamusing. The carbonation is high. Really not the typical wheat beer we all know nowadays. Is this the traditional Hoegaarden taste?

250ml bottle. Refreshing. Hints of pepper and strangely... cinnamon. Very similar to Hoegaarden. Nice, but why the tiny bottle?
