Unfiltered in bottle and keg.
Pierre Celis created the original Hoegaarden beer in the early 1960’s. Interbrew-Labatt bought the brand and the brewery in the 1980's. Pierre Celis formed a new brewery in Austin Texas, brewing the same beer but under the brand name Celis White. Miller bought the Celis brewery and the Celis White brand-name in 1996. The brewery closed in 2000. In late 2002 Michigan Brewing bought the Celis White brand from Miller. Brouwerij Van Steenberge is now brewing the original Pierre Celis White under the brand-name Celis White in Europe and Ertveld's Wit in North America.

6/2/2007 12:42:31 PM Bottle at home. A nice witbier. This is a style I am getting to like more and more. Colour is creamy yellow. Quite citrusy. Could detect pineapple too. Refreshing.

Tap at The Griffon in Shinjuku. Hazy light gold with a nice tight fluffy white head. Aromas of yeast, pepper, lemon zest and light orange pith. Taste is pretty similar...some cardamom and nutmeg as well maybe. Nice peppery and spicy finish. A classic wit.

Megabrewing 101. Tracking this beer down was a bit confusing. The label gives its point of origin as Stratford, Connecticut, but it has obviously been brewed at different times in Belgium, Minnesota and perhaps elsewhere. Likely, this is a Miller/Coors product. Brewed by Two Roads, another sell-out to the monopolists. Well, it is not bad... lacks the banana taste I hate in wheat beers. Seems well made. My memories are of drinking such a beer on a sunny afternoon in a plaza in some Southern German city. Otherwise, I have no interest whatever in this style.
