Commercial Description:
Unfiltered in bottle and keg.
Pierre Celis created the original Hoegaarden beer in the early 1960’s. Interbrew-Labatt bought the brand and the brewery in the 1980's. Pierre Celis formed a new brewery in Austin Texas, brewing the same beer but under the brand name Celis White. Miller bought the Celis brewery and the Celis White brand-name in 1996. The brewery closed in 2000. In late 2002 Michigan Brewing bought the Celis White brand from Miller. Brouwerij Van Steenberge is now brewing the original Pierre Celis White under the brand-name Celis White in Europe and Ertveld's Wit in North America.

White beer is hard enough to find around here. When I had the chance to taste the Belgian Celis (I dearly miss the Austin, TX version), I jumped at it. It didn’t disappoint me. Still a great white beer.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy dirty yellow color ale with a large pure white foamy head with great retention and good lacing. Aroma of coriander and huge wheat malt notes are very enticing and surprisingly more present then I would have anticipated. Taste is an incredible mix between some coriander with loads of wheat malt with light bubble gum notes and a zesty and citrus finish. Full body with limited filtration and great carbonation. I must admit to being totally surprised by this one; it has some much more character then I would have anticipated and a great balance between all ingredient. Definitively one of the most underrated beer I had a chance to taste recently.

A cloud of perfect foam resting on a lovely frosted grey yellow expanse. Beautiful flavor - strong coriander, orange, tangy and spicy. Subtle yet with strength. A truly fine beer. Highly recommended!

RBSG2003. Wow, I liked this! Super orangey -- peel, fruit and all -- in aroma and somewhat in flavor. A lot of coriander, no pepper, a bit salty (!), delicious! Very light yellow.

Cloudy yellow pour with decent sized head and nice lacing. Orange and coriander aromas. Light peppery spiciness to it with a nice wheat taste. Very good.

Delicious, lemony, coriander flavor. I like this beer very much. An excellent beer for a hot day. No, it's not complex, but Witbier's generally are not.

Wow, orange peel and apple aroma. Very refreshing with something new that works just fine. Light, slightly tart with soft flavour of banana. Yeasty, very delicious beer. Gentle and skillfully crafted.

Very refreshing white. Citrus and koriander, also a bit spicy. Watery and sour finish. Excellent summer beer.
