COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Black Rat is a juggernaut of a beer. This imperial, milk stout is big and full of flavor and may remind you of an Irish coffee with lots of cream and sugar. This monster beer clocks in at 9.2% A.B.V. It truly is bitter sweet and velvety smooth.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled in late 2011. Pours pitch black color with a fluffy 2-3 finger dark khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Some nice foamy lacing on the glass, with a lot of carbonation streaming up. Aromas of coffee, roasted malt, caramel, milk chocolate, toffee, biscuit, nuttiness, and light fruitiness. Nice and well balanced aromas with good complexity. Taste of coffee, roasted malt, milk chocolate, toffee, toast, nuttiness, and light fruitiness. Fair amount of coffee bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of coffee, milk chocolate, roasted malt, toffee, toast, and light fruitiness on the finish for a good bit. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and lightly prickly mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Very smooth to sip on. Overall this is an excellent imperial milk stout! Great balance of roasted and sweet flavors, with good complexity; and very smooth to sip on. Really enjoyable stuff.

bit too much lactose sweetness and not enough roast and complexity for an imperial stout, not quite smooth enough for a milk stout. Not really the bests of both worlds, but not bad.

Bottle shared by a friend. Darkest brown pour with a huge tan head. Malty and roasty nose with dark fruit and chocolate notes. Chocolate and dark fruit in the flavor with some booziness before a bitter roasty finish.

Bottle from bittermestupid - thanks Greg. Pours black with a fizzy dark tan head. Aroma of lactosity over chocolate and smooth burnt malt. Med body -almost. It’s milk stout with attitude. Sort of milk chocolate. Very flavorful. Finishes lightly sweet.

Love this dark beer. It is hard to find a beer that has such a great balance of of flavor. The only downside is the price, but hey it’s worth it :-)

Draft. Large, foamy head that seems odd for an imperial stout. First sip told me this is a milk stout--creamy, sweet. Lacks the bold complexity of imperial stouts. It is a little watery, but it as a very enjoyable beer.

12 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown with a medium sized tan head. The aroma is roasted malts, some lactose sweetness, mild coffee with cream and sugar with some chocolate thrown in. The flavor has a nice roasted malt base, lactose sweetness smooths this out quite a bit, there is almost a caramel macchiato thing going on with this and finished with a touch of chocolate. Negatives are the body is a touch thin and the finish kind of falls off into a strange bitterness, but this was a nice surprise.

12 oz. bottle via trade with bittermestupid - Pours a deep brown color with a one finger thick tan head. Light lacing. Flavor and aroma is lightly roasted malt, chocolate, and light coffee. Not much hops in this one. Finish is a little sweet and chocolaty. A pretty nice beer. Thanks Greg.
