2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20
UPDATED: JAN 27, 2013
I get it. If youíre not experimenting, youíre not trying. Itís not avant-garde. It wonít make the beer magazine cover. Still, I canít wrap my head around these sugar-sweet IPAs.
STYLE: American IPA
LOOK: Root beer float head, it comes quick. Looks a lot like Buffalo Billís Alimony Ale. Thereís a nice roasted color beneath it all, if it would just come down so I can drink the stubborn thing. It defines retention.
NOSE: Flat Christmas cookies. One-dimensional.
MOUTH: Brown sugar and gingerbread, especially on the lips. Malt for days, a hit of copper bitterness right in the middle. The texture is there, clinging in the right spots for the right amount of time. It just isnít calling me back for more.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle: The aroma consists of caramel, light fruit, and floral hops. It pours a transparent dark amber with a two finger orange-tinted off-white head that has good retention and leaves behind a lot of soapy lacing. The flavor starts with moderate-heavy sweet caramel and fruit. The finish has some citrus and lightly floral hops. Itís medium bodied with soft carbonation and mouthfeel. Overall, this is hedonistically an okay beer (think American Strong Ale). Rating to style, this is a horrible IPA. Itís too sweet and not hoppy enough .

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle. Pours a murky brown-red color with a very small foamy head that quickly fades. Aroma is sugary and floral. Maltier than it should be. Taste is not very good. Light sugary malt up front that quickly turns very bitter. Flavor is lacking, light floral hops and not much else. Reminds me of my first homebrew batch that did not turn out well.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
May 15, 2013 - tap at The Pub in the Cleveland airport. Brownish orange with really no head by the time I got it. Aroma was citrus hops and malt. Taste started with the citrus hops, then sweet malt and finished with a mild floral bitterness. Medium body and slight carbonation. Waitress said it was really hoppy so I prepared for the worst, but that was not the case at all.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
On draft at Brew Kettle in Ohio. Pours a cloudy amber with an off white head. Woody aroma. Very malty for an IPA with a hint is smoke. Mild bitter finish

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
This is best taken from the freezer and poured slowly in to a tulip glass. I think you have to be careful not to shake too much or it has too much foam...but over all this is one of my favorite IPAs of all. It goes really well with all settings and meals!

2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Tap at the Pub in the Cleveland airport. Not as hoppy of aroma as you might expect. Very unbalanced bitter taste. Not well made at all.

0.5 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20
Popped the top and it took off. Transferring to the glass, quickly yields a lot of foam and little liquid. Amber/brown colored IPA. Nose is weird. Lots of CO2 and some medicinal notes. Fizzy, sticky mouthfeel, astringent. Soured, funky flavors. Obviously, BAD. Sucks.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle into a tulip glass. I guess it wasnít ready to be poured since I just had to slurp up a bunch of foam from the glass so it wouldnít spill. Since there is a ton of head in the glass, I will make a detailed description of the appearance: slightly hazy deep amber with a bunch of bubbles coming from one source on the bottom. The head has only dropped an inch in the last minute or two. Speaking of the head, it is voluminous, foamy, ivory in color, did I mention voluminous? My attempt to stop the head from flowing over was in vain; there is a ring on my cheap coffee table. Iím going for the John Bonham logo! Nose is full of foam; I will wait a bit longer. I donít get it. I put two beers in freezer at the same time to cool them down, and the other one did not have this problem - the other being a IIPA. Nose is vinous and metallic. Flavor adds resin, caramel, and citrus - reminds me of an amber. Bitter yes, but also sweet. Flavorful but fairly light in body and has a short finish. Iíd probably like it more if I didnít have a mess to clean up later. Yeasty aftertaste. Decent, but If get another one, draft all the way.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clear dark amber with a big rocky beige head and swirls of lace. The taste begins with rather sweet caramel malt that is challenged midway by hops that, while present, are never able to overcome the malt. Part of the losing hop battle may be due to the warmth from the alcohol. This is more filling and bloating than it should be, which detracts from the overall experience. Decent, not great.
