Sample at the tap room. Dark brown-black color with a medium creamy light brown head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Medium-bodied with flavors of charred malt, roasted coffee and dark chocolate. The finish is smoked malt and chocolate. Pretty good all around.

22oz bottle in a plastic cup. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, some light smoke, light coffee, some notes of chocolate, and light dough. Flavor the same with a nice blend. Smoother texture. A good beer.

Draught at Ale Arsenal. Another fantastic aroma from Cellarmaker. Massive coffee with the smoked malt blending well while not being over powering. Deep, deep brown with a full brown head. Taste is solid coffee and slight roast.

ok, it’s smells like coffee and cigarettes. Like, I mean wtf? Cigarettes? But it does. It’s a beautiful aroma. Has also a bit of chocolate on the back. Pitch black, not perfect but still nice head. Taste mostly coffe, gladly, a bit of toasty roasty notes. Not much of bitterness. It definitely doesn’t feel like 7,7 abv. Really good one!

This was exactly as described by its namesake - but a bit too much for my tastes. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at RateBeer Best 2016. Pour is black with a very small off-white head. Flavor and aroma of roasted malt, semi-sweet chocolate, and espresso. Finish is similar with a touch of booze.

Great tasting Porter.. Cellarmaker does a great job brewing their beer and serving it very fresh.

On tap at cellarmaker San Francisco. pours out black topped with a brown head. nose is nice roast malts coffee some chocolate sweetness and smoke. taste is more of the roast malts smoke coffee and the smoke. I am normally not a big smoke fan but this one works well.

Draft at the brewery. Pours a deep brown, nearly opaque, with a small beige head that settles into a ring. Good fresh roasted coffee in this, with lightly smoked malts, dark chocolate, earth, tobacco. Mild roast. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a dry, roasty mouthfeel. No particular element of this stands out particularly, but it all comes together really nicely. The imperial, barrel-aged version also enhances it remarkably in my estimation, where others at my table found them more even.

[1/27/16] Draught at Cellarmaker in San Francisco. Black with a brown head. Great aroma of coffee, roast, ashy smoke. Roasty flavor, sweet, with chocolate, lots of coffee, some smoke, mild bitterness. Medium to full-bodied.
