3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
330ml bottle (Drink Shop, Tallinn)
Initially a nice light fruity hop aroma, only later once itís settled in the glass does the chilli pop out - but itís still sweet. Iíve had some poppamies sweeties that taste how this smells. Very dark, reddy brown, persistent dark spongy beige head. Full in the mouth, nice level of carbonation. Roasted to burnt, and gentle chilli retronasals, but not unbalanced. Very dark roast (black/patent) is the most prominant component in the taste, the chillies are just an interesting augmentation to that. Hops donít get lost in the mix either, I was gonna say it seems they threw in half a ton of centennial, but what do I know about hops? (At least many of the hops in it are common subsitutes.) Chilli burn lovely and subtle, goes after a minute or so, so this is remarkably drinkable. (Disclaimer - Iím a bit of a chilli fiend.)

330 ml bottle. BB 08/09/14. Courtesy of Brandman.
Black colour with a small off-white head. Nice contrast. Vegetables, bell pepper, malt and mild milky sweetness in the aroma. The flavour is chili, roasted malt, ashy dryness and bitterness. I'm missing the hoppy balance. Slightly watery. Chili burns nicely. More balance and this would really enjoyable.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
330ml bottle. Clear, ruby red glowing, darkest mahogany colour with average, firm, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, off-white head. Dark malty aroma with a roasty touch, piney, minimally resinous hoppy overtones, a fruity touch of peach and red berries. Taste is initially bone-dry roasty dark malty, bitter and minimally fruity hoppy overtones, later additionally with accumulating, peppery chili notes. Nice dosage of chili, sadly slightly restricted in the width of hop flavours.

Nose is mostly expectable for something this black but then tad more modest with a hint of additional something, perhaps chili? ( I actually knew in advance about the spiciness anyway). Iíd say this had almost enough hops for the smell but it didít open up as much on contact, perhaps because of all the pepper getting in the way, followed by the usual medium ashtray and yes, some hops. Although it opens up slightly better towards the bottles end, this should be compared again to Texas Ranger.

Aroma: coffee, chilli, some caramel. Color: dark reddish brown, almost black. Head is small and dissapears rather qucikly. Taste: chilli! chilli! Dark chocolate bitterness, also hops of course. Rather soft carbonation. Overall: well itís really chilli, but it is interesting beer. Not something I would drink regularly, but at least itís not boring!

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Unusual sweet, rich aroma of malt, possibly some chili coming through in the smell too but not clearly. Deep red appearance with a slightly red tainted head. Good level chili warmth accompanied by a very malty flavour.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A black beer with red tints and a thickish off white head. An interesting aroma of smoky malt and a vegetal chilli spice, but by no means hot. Dry mouthfeel. A bittersweet dark malt taste, smoky, woody and perhaps nutty, then a slightly sour, vegetal chilli spice which accompanies a hoppy flavour that lasts well into the finish.

At the Portcullis, Clifton, Bristol, October 2013. Dark brown with a slight off-white head. Dark fruits, some chocolate and a vague suggestion of chilli warmth, with a touch of grassy hop and dryish finish. Good.

Pours dark brown with a small head. Charcoal, toast, chocolate, caramel and chilli spice. Bitter-sweet, spice, chilli pepper heat, roasted malt, charcoal, toast, mild fruitiness and a spicy, bitter finish. Great effort for a chilli beer
