UPDATED: DEC 22, 2013 Cask handpull, The Felix Holt, Nuneaton, 17/12/13. Clear brass with a snowy white mousse lining the glass. Ripe satsuma, green peppery herb nose. Strong bitterness behind perfumed yeast, satsuma and perfumed coriander seed. Clinging bitterness with peppery alcohol hints. Not sure the bitterness fits the perfume. Good, although more a generic spiced Belgian blonde with an extra tweak of hop than a saison.

Cask at Crosse Keys (Spoons), Gracechurch Street, London. A golden/amber coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Yeasty, spice aroma. Tastes yeasty, spice, citrus fruit, quite bitter. Didn’t pick up any pumpkin. Not bad.

Cask at JDW Charlie Hall; clear golden yellow pout with off white head, spice aroma, taste has orange, spice, clove, a hint of wheat, some citrus, pleasant lunchtime surprise at my local Spoons.

Cask JDW Victoria Station - 03/12/13. Pours an amber colour with a creamy slightly off-white head. Aroma is yeasty spiciness, with some orange. Medium body, mild carbonation. A touch of cloves and mixed spice, a little orange with a graoefruit bitterness to finish. Nice.

Cask, handpump The Penny Black, JDW Bicester, Saturday 7th December 2013 Pours warm amber with thin white head, a little soapy, I even pick up a little radox, pine maybe showing. Not sure I get the pumpkin but this is truly gorgeous stuff. Excellent beer, quite thick in mouth, bitterness really hangs in there, bit dry at end and lengthy bitterness. Very nice, not sure that it is that Saisony but it’s good nonetheless. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8

Cask @ Railway Inn (JDW), Rushden. Dark gold, slightly hazy. Bit of head, heavy lacing. Fruity, toffee and yeasty aroma Amazing taste: extreme bitterness with a squash-like (pumpkin?) flavour, finish too bitter but aftertaste is lovely and yeasty. Gets better and better over the course of the pint.

Nice to see this beer slowly settling ending in a clear golden yellow with solid white foam ring, lasting to the end. The British beers can do that. Aroma is bit sour, so is taste, but on the other hand quite a bitter taste too. Surprising good beer. Shame I couldn’t drink it all as I was driving. (Swansea 201312)
