COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Status uncertain.
NOTE: The bottled version (at 5.6%) has a separate listing.
Bleddyn ap Cynfyn was ruler of Gwynedd and Powys and probably of Ceredigion and Brycheiniog as well, and undoubtedly the most powerful Welsh king. After his death in 1075, his sons were too young to rule, and his dominions passed into the hands of a cousin Trahaern ap Caradog. This delicious pale strong ale has an original gravity of 1075 with a high mash temperature leaving a fine full bodied texture. Generous US and New Zealand variety hopping gives a very bitter tongue, which is complemented by a crisp sweetness and a delicious citrus and grapefruit aroma.

Cask by handpump at Counting House, Glasgow - clear pale golden amber, thin creamy off-white head, excellent lacing, mild citrus hop aroma, flavour is grapefruit, aggressively hopped, sharp prolonged citrus aftertaste

Golden beer with a thin head and a mild hop aroma. There’s a faint sweet edge to the taste but I couldn’t pick out what it was as the flavour is predominantly of hops. Taste-wise it’s one I could enjoy having a few of for an evening but given the strength that’d probably be a bad idea!

Cask @ Diggers, Edinburgh (5.6%) [060313]
Golden, clear, dense thin white head, some lacing
Aroma of citrus hops, soft grapefruit, zesty hops, fairly resinous, sweet pale malts
Taste of bitter citrus zest, more bitter resins than fruit, plenty of punch, sweet oily pale malts
Palate - Medium body, oily quite sticky texture, good texture. Finish is resinous zesty, consideraby bitter hops, bitter tail that clears, perhaps a tad over bitter in the finish
Overall - Solid beer but would like a bit more fruitiness

Cask at Bell, Bath. Pours clear, yellow-gold with a fine, bubbly head. Some sugary, very lightly toasted malts and caramel in the nose. Medium sweetflavor, some ripe berries, light dry caramel, light leafy bitterness. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish, some sticky sugars, caramel, berries. Simple ESA but reasonably well balanced.
