Golden pour with a thick, creamy white head. The nose is mostly of crackery Maris Otter malts. There is a little bit of minerally flavour and a bit of a metallic note that I could probably do without. There is a little bit of light crystal providing a bit of character through the middle as well as a bit of light herbal/spicy hoppiness. A pretty typical bitter. Warming knocks the metallic edge off. Nice, straightforward brew.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 cyrenaica (941) - Milton, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 25, 2011
500ml bottle
4.5% ABV
I tried this beer on September 14, 2011 after purchasing from one of my local LCBO outlets. The beer poured a golden-copper colour with a very thin head which quickly dissipated. The aroma is sweet malt, light fruits, and weak floral hops. The mouthfeel is medium-full bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour is buttery caramel, some nuts, and a good bitter finish. I liked it.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 pootzboy (1450) - Hawgville, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 25, 2011
500ml bottle. Pours a copper colored ale in the glass. Modest cap but decent lacing. Aroma is pungent – cooked grains and earthiness, some grassy (weedy?) hop tones. Taste has a big flavor blast of boiled grain, some toastiness, with a damn fine earthy hop tone riding even with the malts, great balanced bittering and a clean lightly bitter finish. This is a fantastic bitter with massive taste and a mild character. Top notch ale smithing in the authentic genre.

Good taste of hops, i like this but then I’m a fan of bitters in general. Perhaps it’s not the most depth for the category. bottle

500ml bottle. Clear amber-tinged gold with a huge fluffy lasting off-white pillowy head. Pleasant cereal and floral aroma, no alcohol, a tad sweet. Taste follows, a little metallic and harsh. Average body, astringent, decent carbonation, a long bitter/harsh finish, not that pleasant.

500 ml bottle - would it be cheeky to say it pours bronze? Because it does. Tight white head that coats the side of the glass. Bready, fruity, slightly chocolatey and slightly perfumey nose. Fruity, slightly brassy flavour, the metallic edge fades as the pint warms. Sweet malt with a handful of hops tossed in. Simple, enjoyable, if ultimately forgettable pint.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 probstblueribbon (2378) - Nepean, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 16, 2011
500 ml bottle from LCBO, served cold in a tulip glass. BB END 12.1.
App.: Clear amber with a fair off-white head.
Aroma: Earthy, fruity, mushrooms, kinda oddly sweet, herbal-ish, biscuit malts, a touch nutty, hard to describe.
Palate: Medium body, relaxed effervescence.
Flav.: Earthy, malty, British, kinda fruity, some pepperiness, a bit herbal, a little stark caramel, still hard to describe properly; dry with some bitterness and a stark British malt finish.
I’m having trouble describing what I smell/taste. Regardless, I award this beer a Celt “Thanks for coming out”.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Spab (1639) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 16, 2011
500 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a clear, slightly dark golden orange with moderate-sized slightly off-white head. Fairly mild aroma with some sweet malt. Flavour is less mild though still fairly restrained with some sweet caramel, slightly biscuity malt. Body is maybe just a shade below medium. Refreshing and drinkable but not a whole lot going on.
