Celt Dark-Age is a delicious full bodied Welsh dark beer. The beer has a special blend of coffee and chocolate flavours, which are balanced with a smooth aroma with subtle notes of caramel and dark fruit, leading to a bitter finish. This beers name comes from the Dark age. Folklore has highlighted many stories of Celtic warriors and kings that waged successful battles against the intruding Anglo-Saxons. None more than King Arthur, who legend has it, fought in 12 battles in the late 5th and early 6th century.

UPDATED: MAR 7, 2014 Re-rate from a bottle from Oddbins. Much more generous on nose, taste and overall enjoyment this time. Previous rating on cask at the Stockbridge Tap on26/02/14 = 6+4+6+3+13 = 3.2 On cask at the Stockbridge Tap. Appearance - dark amber into chestnut. Nice head. Nose - toffee and ginger spice. Some biscuits. Taste - more spicy ginger with a toasty backbone. Palate - medium bodied with a crunchy texture and a fairly fresh finish considering the style. Overall - a solid mild.

Bottle shared by nuplastikk...thanks Greg! - Pours clear cola color, light with tan bubbles. Nose is lightly roasted malt, a touch of smoke, and dry dark bread. Taste is bready with light dry yeast--real grainy. Thin and watery and well-carbonated.

Flaske fra SB Sälen. Svart med tynt offwhite skum. Aroma av malt, karamell og kaffe. Smaker litt besk/bitter kaffe, karamell og litt alkohol. Virker langt sterkere enn 4%. Medium kullsyre, medium og bitter kaffe-ettersmak.

Bottle (1 day after ’best by’ date). Pours almost clear, light to medium brown amber. Medium to large frothy creamy tan head, fairly lasting with excellent lace. Aroma is sweet and dry. Nutty, light dark fruity, touch of caramel and chocolate roasty malty, along with a sort of earthy herbal woody character. Flavor follows. Good complexity. Bigger Medium body. Finish is mild bitter and some nice chocolate and coffee like roast. The best of the 4 Celt brews I picked up.

Sweet malt, dark fruit, caramel, a little creamy aroma. Taste is slight coffee/chocolate, fairly light, smooth, creamy. Roast malt, a somewhat bitter finish. Fairly smooth and drinkable. The dark color is deceiving.

Bottle from Systemet. Firm, rich head and fine dark copper body. For a alcohol weak mild, it has a very fine aroma and taste with coffee and chocolate. A bit more than the "folköl"-variety of this ale, you can buy in Sweden. Both are very good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

bottle. bb 06/01/14. Pours a dark ruby brown with a foamy off white head. Leafy, grassy slightly woody aroma with a hint of yeast. Medium body, a teeny bit thin, mild to medium carbonation. Slightly woody, yet fresh, a little resin, some lemon. It’s OK.
