A nice smokey brew. Yet a bit to carbonated and needs a bit more on the tongue. Smokey with a bitter end not a bad brew

I wish more US craft brewers would brew a mild. Deep garnet colored beer with a small beige head. Nose of roasted grain and dark fruit. Flavors of burnt toast, smoldering fire, dark fruits and enough water to remind you that it is a 4% beer. Very easy drinking and infinitely sessionable. Not all that interesting or complex, but flavorful and a beer I could drink all day. And it appears to be organic....

500ml bottle. Superb clear darkest ruby red colour with average to huge, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Aroma has fruity notes of red berries, a slight grainy and yeasty touch. Taste has gentle roasted barley notes, some husk, a touch of milk chocolate, cautious hints of dried dark fruit, integrated bitter hop notes.

Bottled (From AbM). Deep coppery brown colour, close to black, with a small beige head, that leaves some lace. Aroma is coffee, mild rye, some ripe fruits as well as mild toffee and some mild syrupy notes. Flavour is ripe dry fruits, some chocolate, mild toasted notes as well as some mild nuttyness and mild syrupy sweetness as well. Quite a bodied beer, although being only 4 % in the abv.

Pours a deep ruby-copper with thin head. Chocolate, coffee, and toasted grains all come out. Great taste; currents, caramel and a nice bitter finish. Delicious ale from Wales and something I would love to see more American brewers doing. I hate to see reviews that call this "weak" just because of low alcohol.

500ml bottle bought at TASTE in Olympian City, Tai Kok Tsui. Clear, dunkel-like blackish brown colour; One finger head and slightly beige foam which last for about 1 minute; Good lacing with lively carbonation; Fragrant aroma of grapefruit, toffee, dark chocolate, brown sugar and light floral; Dark and mute sweet taste of roast malt, with coffee, dark bread, dark chocolate, grapefruit, lemon and strong grass; Med to light body, thin palate; Taste profile is initial dark roast malt with only faint trace of sweetness and suitably light coffee and chocolatey characters to make more like a stout. Good! Good grapefruit palate means it’s very nicely hopped, with mid-to-high bitterness and astringency is surprisingly mild, very grassy and comforting and lingering finish. Pretty dry after taste, nicely bitter to mouth.
Comments: my second try of this brand, and once again it’s another good one. I wonder though, is this really a Mild Ale? This is a nice fusion of IPA and Stout, without any of the nasty cloyingly sweet taste of most macro Dunkels. Its chocolate malt’s aroma and taste may be relatively low key, but the hoppiness is full-on IPA, though not as strong and potent as Celt Silures. Very nice dark beer indeed. I like this a lot and it’s a keeper! Recommended.
